I wouldn't go that far. Someone is going to flinch on this. Not playing while hockey and basketball do would be astoundingly bad for both sides in the long run. The players appear unbelievably short sighted to me if they hold this position.

Why can they not just get together on this and get started already? Only MLB could screw up the opportunity to be the only sport on TV

I hold firm. Bring up the farm league players and get the season rolling. MLB players can miss out on their salaries if the don't want to play.

The owners are the problem. They'd open up the books for the MLBPA to look at if they were actually hurting for money. They're using this to maintain profit margins and weaken the MLBPA and salaries going into the next big negotiations. All the owners need to do is prove that their profits will be suffering in a similar fashion as the players', but they're obviously refusing to do that.

Scherzer is on the far, far end of the bell curve when it comes to his contract & salary. He's not the average player or close to the median salary. That's the guy that need to be talking

I think this is just the first exchange but I certainly understand the need for a sliding scale versus just proration.

Joe Minimum Salry is going to be hit a lot harder by a flat 60% reduction than Max Scherzer is relative terms and quality of life. By making it a sliding scale you can soften the blow for the guys making the least.

Now do I agree with it? Not particularly for the same reason that I don't agree with progressive tax rates. But I understand it.

A 114 game season and expanded playoff was never a serious proposal. That's a regular season that ends in mid to late November LOL. Gonna have to speed up this global warming bit to make that work. Making it to June while still throwing out nonsense offers does not bode well at all to getting this done. Ridiculous

Does the leadership of any professional sports league or their players union have good leadership? Perhaps the NFL?

Seems like the other leagues leaderships are basically there to negotiate media rights and their player's union leadership doesn't have the ability to understand and adjust to the dynamics in play now. And it should be possible for the commissioner and union chief to get in a room and figure it out but I don't think either is bright enough to have the confidence to do that.

Most people perceive the NFLPA as weak. They are the group that failed to protect their former members who were literally dying as a result of playing the sport.

Both sides look really really pathetic here. Missed a golden chance.

Seems reasonable and is hopefully close enough to get this done. Prorating for games actually played + a 25% haircut for the fact that the stadiums will be empty does not seem unreasonable at all. I'm sure the players will try to haggle them up to 80-85, but hopefully this is something that can get done soon. What's ridiculous is this is a common sense proposal where they could/should have been weeks ago.

That's a worse deal than the 50 games at 100% pro-rated for the players. They won't accept it just because of that. This all ****in blows.

Play 82 at 80% pro-rated. It'll hurt for both so it'll mean its a fair deal.

Play 75 games at full pro rated salary. Try to fit as many fans in stands as the state allows. Or else you lose 100% of the revenue

but if you're an owner...you want protection against the possible cancellation of the postseason
