Quick note on upcoming roster considerations:

Quote:

Guzman's return may impact bullpen
First baseman Ronald Guzman could come off the injured list next Tuesday and the Rangers could avoid a tough decision with their bullpen by going with seven relievers instead of eight.
The tough call would be which position player gets dropped when Guzman comes back: Logan Forsythe or Danny Santana. The Rangers could keep both if they go with just seven relievers.
"That's definitely a possibility," Woodward said. "It is weighing on my mind a little bit. I don't want to lose either one of them. I don't really feel the need to get rid of one of them. They are too valuable with the way they are playing."
The alternative would be placing either Santana or Forsythe on outright waivers and risk losing one of them.
A week or two ago I posted that Forsythe should be the one to go, but he's obviously been hot lately so it won't be him (barring a trade). It'll be hard to go with a shorter bullpen with our rotation inconsistencies, but the starters have actually been doing better of late.

Jesse Chavez would clear waivers right now!
Yes he would. He is signed to a guaranteed contract for 2019 and 2020, and nobody is picking that up unless the Rangers eat some of it.

Did I miss CJ Nitkowski getting fired?
Grieve has been color on every game I've got a chance to watch for the past 3 weeks

CJ will be back in a week. I think he took a forced vacation so Grieve could call some games.

Needs to take a permanent vacation

Could he take Odor and Chavez with him please?

CJ is the only good one of the 3. He actually provides good insight into the game. You actually prefer stick-in-the-mud-got-Josh-Lewin-fired grandpa Grieve????

Our old pal Martin Perez appears to be dealing against the Stros. 7ip, 3h, 0 runs

Brocail and Banny messed that one up. I hope he finishes off the win tho for the Twinkies.

I think it's good for our players to stay in the race as long as possible, playing in games that actually matter. I know we won't compete this year in the end probably, but playing meaningful baseball games in July and August would be an unexpected treat.

Actually fat Nolan got Lewin fired.

Lewin is great if your team isn't contending. Nolan didn't care for his pop culture references and other hip stuff, but it's not really fun to talk about the game when you're losing by 10 runs like we often were when we had Lewin.

Lewin is great when a team is contending, too.

Nolan did the firing, but Grieve is a big reason for it. He wanted Lewin gone and had Nolan's ear. Lewin doesn't lose his job without Grieve's support of the move

Another unsuccessful plan for JD.

Held our June 2018 SPs out of throwing, to work on strengthening and conditioning, in order to alleviate the large number of TJ surgeries... well our 2Rd & 4Rd SP have been sent to the cutting table in the past few weeks.

Are we statistically par with other teams, 'cause it seems like we are getting more than our share.

A few years ago, he drafted a number of known injured players, in hopes of getting high talent, playing the long-game, and now, if I get drafted by the Rangers, I'd almost feel like it would be assured I'd end up getting TJ.

It must be a systemic issue.

There is something wrong with the process our organization uses to get a pitcher from A ball to the big league team. Way too many failures for it to be chalked up to "bad luck".

Tanner Roark got traded to the nationals in the terrible Christian Guzman trade I think.

Everyone flipped when they traded away Jake Thompson, Dillon Tate, Luis Ortiz and Lewis Brinson but none of them have panned out

see thats what I mean.... people talk about all these trades where we traded all out young talent for a veterans to make playoff runs..... but I think if 95% of those young guys were still here.... the Rangers would be right in the same position

It's crazy that everyone flipped out when they were traded. Now Thompson is in the KBO, Tate is 25 and has yet to make it past AA, Ortiz has a MLB ERA of 15.43 and in 157 games Brinson is hitting .190

The Roark trade and especially the dempster trade really hurt. I'm not sure how good Villanueva is doing, but he seemed to be doing pretty good last year.

A 3rd baseman starter and 2 starting pitchers sucks to not have those.

Hendricks and Roark would look nice in this rotation right now ( Perez too)

Thankfully the Matt Garza grade and the lucroy trade look like nothing burgers in regard to what we gave up. Those guys can still pan out I guess, but it always sucks to look back and realize you traded a stud for a World Series run that didn't pan out.

Jared Eickoff is with the Phillies. He had a good rookie year, believe was injured most of last year. Carl Edwards Jr is with the Cubs. Probably another one or two out there I"m not thinking of, but Hendricks is the one who has had the most success as a starter.

I think the one I'm most upset about is Odbel Herrera. Lost him to the Phillies in the Rule 5 Draft. Would be nice to have in CF

Speaking of Hendricks, he just threw a complete game shutout on 81 pitches. 81 pitches is hard to do over 9 innings.

I wish they would repossess the horse that they gave him. However, if he has the same level of competence as a horse owner as he does making contact, the horse probably starved a long time ago.

I was actually going to visit this top, when I saw Lewis Brinson (25) was optioned on 4/30.
2019: .197, 0 HR, 0 SB. Still early, but not looking good.

While I agree the trades don't seem as devastating now... I do think we lost considerable talent.

The jury is still out on Luis Ortiz.

He went 11 GS, 3.71 in AA, last year. He was 22. Now 23 and sniffing the Big.

Ryan Cordell (27): .227, 2 HR, 1 SB in 17 G, this year.

Dempster...
Kyle Henrdicks (29)
2014-'18: 132 GS, 3.07 ERA, 52-33, 1.110 WHIP. That's about 26 GS/Season, and he only got 13 GS, his 1st year.
2019: 5 GS, 5.33 ERA.

Hamels:
Jerad Eickoff (28): 68 GS, 3.84 ERA for Philly. Had a great 2016 (age 25) and then kinda fell off.
Jorge Alfaro (26): .288, 5 HR, now with Miami. Career: .272, 20 HR, in 166 GP

Dylan Moore (Sea-26): 22G, 41PA, .194, 1 HR, 1 SB. Traded to Atl for Int'l Money/bonus slots.

I quickly went through players they drafted that are in MLB... Too lazy to look at the Int'l players...

There are a couple whom they got in trades and subsequently got traded, and I can't recall.

Having said that... clearly you consider talent as an asset. Like Darvish... there are some players we've fretted over not keeping, who also went on to do nothing...

I enjoyed the Tom Schieffer visit a few weeks ago, but most of the rest of this is crap. All it does is serve to piss me off that this gem is getting dumped after only 25 years for a multi-purpose facility (let's call it what it is).

And as far as this game goes....

Raymond must have either been in the bathroom, or sleeping.

CJ is talking about the BJ's starter tomorrow. Indicates they are uncertain about who will start. They haven't announced.

Raymond... "You talking about tomorrow's starter? Yeah, the BJ's haven't announced, yet, have they? There is some uncertainty about who will start."
