To the Astros thread!

I want to watch those idiots reactions. It will be fun to watch them get their hopes up and then see their come back dreams dashed.

I really like Woodwards approach to this season so far.

Big fan of Woody so far. Hopefully JD can bring in some help and see what he can do with a real team.

You know what's really fun guys?

The pop up in the infield that made Correa look stupid was the difference in the game!

I just love beating the hated Astros.

Where would we be without Shawn Kelley?

Great veteran pickup. He's been a stabilizing force in the bullpen. You could argue that the Astros would have swept us without Kelley.

It's amazing how arrogant their fans are after one fluke world series win. Such trash fans that dwell in Houston.

I just spent 20 minutes talking to Erin Woodward here at the ballpark. What a wonderful lady and a baseball encyclopedia. She could not have been any nicer and almost had tears when I told her how the Rangers fans( us) feel about Woody. I told her the only negative was not walking Trout in the Anahiem series and she laughed about that. I'm guessing AP can confirm what a nice lady she is.

Mathis needs to figure out how to switch up the pitches.

You watch the 9th inning, and the runner on 2nd Base was totally relay signals.

1st head nod (Left for Breaking, Right for Fast)
2nd head nod (Left or Right for side of the plate).

Subtle... but consistent... and correct.

Do you work for the team?

Can't imagine how an everyday fan would get to talk to someone affiliated with the team for more than 10 seconds.

I can't imagine how they'd know our signals. Robbie ain't the best catcher ever but letting him go to the Astros was stupid.

I reminded my son that with a 2 run lead and the bases loaded with 2 outs in the 9th, home plate is considered an open base when Altuve is being followed by Chirinos. Walking Altuve was like hitting Trout the other night. Not a bad move at all, even if you didn't mean to do it.

No, I do not work for the team but my job allows access. Can't really say more than that.

Another thing she did tell me was that a bunch of teams, including the Dodgers, Rangers and even the Yankees, all filed grievances with MLB accusing the Astros of cheating multiple ways. I had no idea. Did you know about that?

Had no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me. Those *******s will stoop to any level.

Remember when Reid Ryan demonized us in the media for not straight up "swapping" series after hurricane Harvey? I don't care where we played those games, it was their home games, but a straight up swap would've screwed over ranger fans who bought tickets to see the games in September. Some people buy those tickets way in advance and plan vacations / trips around them.

After it was all over, their reason for not wanting to just move the games to Arlington was "we didn't want to give the rangers more home games and make it easier on them to get the wildcard". Obsessed with one team much?

Woodward doesn't accuse them of cheating, but he may be taking high road by mentioning tipping pitches rather than stealing signs. But if our signs are easy enough to steal, that is on the Rangers to fix that issue imo.

Quote:

Rangers manager Chris Woodward said closer Jose Leclerc may be tipping his pitches

"They have to have something on him, because he's not getting the chase on those borderline pitches that he normally does with his changeup," Woodward said. "We thought something was going on before, that teams had something on him as far as tipping his pitches. I believe that, because guys are dead on his fastball and not swinging at his changeup. You saw the results last year, when you don't know it's coming."

Leclerc said he doesn't think he is tipping his pitches.

"I'm trying to do too much," Leclerc said. "Everything feels good. I think I'm trying too hard to show I can do the best that I can ... trying to be too perfect."

I thought I could see a wider grip from the center field camera, but I wasn't looking for it. Hard to know how soon the batter would pick that up, but he could be separating his glove and hand sooner, which would also be a symptom of missing up with the fastball. I'm guessing they have better film guys than this hack, though.

I know his fastball is fine, velocity-wise, but I thought we were seeing a little more cutting-action on it, which is why he was so deadly against lefties. He doesn't need to throw 98. 95 - 96 with cut is more effective. If he doesn't have movement, he looks like Ogando - tons of velocity, but not enough swings and misses.

It's annoying on both sides honestly. Either the game starts too early, or too late. Later is definitely worse, but still. Doesn't make sense for the west coast fans either.

I think he isn't getting the chase because he is struggling (to put it politely) to throw strikes with his fastball. So they can ignore the breaking ball and just wait for a fastball to be in the strike zone at the pro level of reaction time, no?

Very interested to see how the team does.

Historically, it seems like the sewer ballpark in Oakland is where ranger hot streaks and ranger win streaks go to die. We have our 2 best pitchers going against them tho. I think we have a fighting chance. If we can do 3-4 on this road trip while being competitive in almost every game, I'd gladly take it.

I need to investigate more but it looks like the WS win for the Astros deserves a big asterisk for cheating. The Patriots of baseball. No respect for a team like that.

Not a doubt in my mind that they've been videoing signs and having their pitchers use sticky substances to improve spin rates. Other teams may be doing it too, but there is no question the Astros have. Their cover about their guy caught videoing the Indians and Red Sox in October was laughable. Their cover story was that he was videoing to make sure the Indians and Red Sox weren't cheating. LOL. Only a league dumb enough to let cheating basically ruin their HR recordbook would be dumb enough to buy it.

Ot really isn't more complicated than watching Mathis. My BIL and I sat on our couches and would say, "2 head shakes left." The runner on 2nd would make 2 distinct movements of his head as if looking at 1B. Breaking ball on left side of plate. "2 shakes right." Runner looks towards Astros dugout with 2 distinct head movements." Fastball right side of plate.

Once Mathis makes a mound visit, you know he make another visit. When Mathis made his visit, My BIL said, "He needs to tell him, these are the next 3 pitches." Of course he didn't do that.

IMO, that is on Mathis. If the runner on 2nd is predicting your pitches... you need to improve.

Watch the 9th.

Some of them were saying their lineup lost some of its momentum when Carlos Beltran retired. I guess he's smarter than all of their other hitters and he was giving them tips on the right approach to take against certain pitchers / teams.

Down 4-0 after 6 in Oakland. But at least we have this: Twins 9, Astros 5 - final
