LOVE the Verlander extension as well. Yes he could fall off a cliff performance-wise, but I think he's worth the risk. He SHOULD have won the Cy Young last season.

Hoping to see him pitch in Arlington next week.

Or maybe DK sees all this money going to other players and the club is moving on without him. Maybe he's finally realizing Luhnow is not bluffing and he isn't gonna pay him what he wants.
He could have had $750K deposited in his bank account every 1st and 15th for a year and put together a good season and been a free agent in 2020 without the QO compensation pick hanging over his head and maybe gotten paid even more.

I'll be glad if he signs with us for a reasonable rate, but I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for him.

He keeps being a solid bullpen arm. We lost McHugh & Peacock to the rotation and have to resort to guys like Framer. We need Harris to be as good as he was last year during the 2nd half.

I like this move on two fronts, one I think he will still be a very good pitcher in 3 years and two, I like that he will be around to help the young pitchers coming up. This is a win/win for the Astros

I doubt this changes anything regarding his long term projection at 1B. It just seems like his quickest path to the bigs if he mashes at AAA would be in LF.

I could see bullpen arms, but I don't see us dealing the type of prospects to get a high end starter unless we have some serious injuries.

We have JV & Cole. Then if one of Peacock, McHugh, or Miley or one of the prospects (Whitley, JB, Martin) hit then at best we're looking to upgrade at #4 for the postseason. Seems unlikely.

One thing the Astros value is the ability to play multiple spots. Alvarez needs reps in LF at Minute Maid to familiarize himself with the odd dimensions. He also played a lot of LF last year in Corpus so this isn't a big change for him.
