That's fair, but even then, you are trading away around 5 seasons that would total around 12 to 15 WAR for two seasons of what you hope to be 8 to 9 WAR. This will likely shorten your competitive window and there are no guarantees that adding a Realmuto (or any other player) brings a World Series or significantly increases the chance of winning a World Series because chances of winning World Series even if you are the favorite entering the playoffs is still generally around 20 to 25%.

If Tucker is on the opening day roster then you still get 6 years (not 5) and if he is called up in June or so then you get 6.5.

I wouldn't trade Tucker for Realmuto. That doesn't mean I wouldn't trade Tucker at all, just don't think that's appropriate value. You're buying high on Realmuto and he plays a position that gets hurt a lot. I wouldn't be shocked if he plays under 100 games one of those two years you control him. That 4.8 WAR likely represents a number he won't repeat.

It'll be interesting to see how everyone's thoughts change as we see how well or wretched Stassi, Chirinos, and Tucker look as the season progresses.

'stros are leading the A's 2-0 after one (ATT Sports Net replay). It's better than meaningless basketball.

All good. Regardless the NL East is going to have a lot of good teams. I'm not if any will be great though.

May have already been discussed... but was looking at the schedule and picking some games to travel for.

Yet again we start the season on the road. 7 games (4 @ TB, 3 in Arlington) before we get a chance to play at home. Breaking a pretty good streak of alternating home / away to start each year.

What's the deal with this? Our opening series will be our 3-4-5 pitchers, too, so I'll probably wait for a different series to travel down.

Only benefit is at least the home opener is on Friday for the first time since 2012. Hope the team is still full of road warriors for that first kick.

If Stassi and Chirinos combine for 25-30 HRs and 80-90 RBIs, I don't think anyone will care about Realmuto. That's pretty much what they combined for last year.

Think it depends.

If Tucker struggles again and bounces back and forth between the bigs and AAA the debate on trading/keeping will be turned up.

I always think the division winners or at least World Series winners should get to have opening day at home. Look at the Red Sox, they start at Seattle and Oakland. Yuck, that really sucks for their fans.

Maybe so. I have no idea. I guess that would be why it's like this though.

I agree, and I think that's a reasonable expectation from those two. I also think Reddick is going to bounce back some and that between him and Kemp we will be fine even if Tucker lays another egg.

I know I sound like a broken record, and perhaps I'm still too much of the old mindset where power hitters hit 3-4-5, but I'd rather have Springer at clean-up with Correa after. Think of the protection you'd have with:

Kemp-LF
Altuve-2B
Bregman-3B
Springer-CF
Correa-SS
Brantley-DH
Gurriel-1B
Reddick-RF
Chirinos-C

That's our best line-up I think. Who are you going to pitch around in that line-up?
Harry Dunne

I like it but I'd rather have Brantley in the field and Kemp at the bottom of the lineup.

isn't Brantley a poor defender? I thought I heard that.

Bregs had arthroscopic surgery on his elbow?

Quote:

The Astros announced Friday that third baseman Alex Bregman underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow earlier today. Bregman is expected to be limited at the start of Spring Training but ready for full duty by Opening Day.

Yes. As much as I like Kemp, he shouldn't lead the team in plate appearances.

I truly don't care what order, but Bregman, Altuve, Correa (if productive version) and Springer need to be 1-4.

  • Arm: +3.1 (5th)
  • Errors: +1.0 (5th)
  • Range: -6.2 (21st)
Brantley's got a great arm. We know this, because of the outfield assists. There's really no arguing with the errors, because there's really no arguing with the official scorer. These are the positive traits for Brantley, the defender. But you see the negative. It's the biggest number, and it's the reason Brantley grades out as a negative defender. Range is the most important skill for an outfielder to have, and it happens to be Brantley's worst skill.

Michael Brantley looks like a left fielder with subpar, but not terrible, range...Brantley's subpar-but-not-terrible range, paired with his plus arm and error prevention, make him an average to slightly-below-average left fielder. At least that's what the numbers say.

Chron.com is reporting it as well I saw this morning....said he will be back by opening day? We shall see

New's like above is why I wish all these little league all-stars in this thread wouldn't post so much about the team cake walking into the playoffs, our starting rotation being just fine, etc.....

#1 rule in baseball is don't assume anything. And damn sure don't speak it out loud (or type it)

A few weeks ago on the Houston forum AustinCo referred to immigrants or maybe Hispanic people in general as "brown trash".

Maybe it's just me, but I think if you're going to root for a team full of brown guys, maybe you should take your own advice about speaking & typing bad assumptions.

considering my wife is Mexican you can stop your assumptions as well.....the "brown trash" I was referring to are the people who "mooch" off our country and then want to complain when they don't get their way.

However, this is the MLB thread so I am going to stick to that here. I'm sorry if my Little League comment hit too close to home. I shouldn't have said that. No ill will to any poster on this thread. I love my Astros posters.

No doubt he'll be ready and crush the rehab I was just surprised it happened this late. If anybody is motivated to rehab and get back 100% it's Bregman the gym rat.

Just doesn't seem like an injury that would come up in the offseason.

I agree...Hopefully the injury won't have any lingering effects. We need Bregs to be 100% from day one.

You're probably right on with the little league comment. Your "brown trash" one was the one that hit close to home. I don't think the problem above is restricted to brown people. I'll stick to baseball and leave it at that.
