The Astros are pouncing on Miley after only a few starts' worth of proof that his adjustments are sustainable, just like they did with Morton two years ago. So don't think of Miley as a replacement for both Keuchel and Morton. Instead, imagine that Keuchel and Morton went off into the woods, got lost, and Keuchel ate Morton before wandering back into Astros camp.
That is definitely the most impactful rule change in my opinion. Makes LOOGYs worthless basically.Farmer1906 said:
I think the 3 batter thing is ridiculous.
Are we going to force replacement offensive players stay in 3 innings? For 3 ABs?
It's just going to change how people analyze warm up sessions. It'll be interesting to see how they limit tech but i wouldn't be surprised if teams try to find a way to see if a player has his rotation/etc while warming up.mathguy86 said:
A 3 batter rule is silly. Sometimes a guy doesn't have it and you have to get him out of there.
In Game 5, Brandon Morrow gave up 2 HR, a 2B and a BB on like 8 pitches. Roberts should have taken him out after 2 batters. Hell, he should never have been used. He clearly didn't have anything as it was his 5th straight game to pitch in. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad he stayed in. But that's because Roberts was an idiot.
I assume they think it'll make relievers as a whole more valuable since you have to be versitale now. It'll cost a few guys their job, but as a whole good back end, but not closers will get a pay bump out of this.mathguy86 said:
If a 3 batter min rule had been in place last year, or the year before, would Tony Sipp ever have been in a game? I'm pretty sure the answer is no. And if he's never in a game why would you even have him on your roster?
This rule would actually hurt fringe players like Sipp. They would never get a contract. I can't believe the players and the union would ever support this change.
