Guys, Hinch managed a WS championship team last year and back-to-back 100 win seasons... I think we should trust his and his management teams judgement on which players he chooses. We're complaining about the #25 and last player selected to the team, someone who gets very little playing time.

But we'll be playing the Red Sox with a lot better hitting than the Indians. They scored more runs in the regular season than anyone else. Gattis has just been terrible lately and his career numbers against Sale and Price are bad as well.
Gattis has experience against Sale and Price. Straw does not.

And, the fact that Boston may have a better offensive lineup compared to the Indians shouldn't factor in to whether it was Gattis or Straw.

But, if you want to argue that point, saying we need more offense to counter good offense, Gattis is the right choice, even with lackluster numbers against Sale and Price. Gattis has more pop. 11 of his 25 HRs are off LHP.

Gattis played in 128 games this season and ended up 2nd on the Astros in HR and 3rd in RBI. Gattis was 2nd in slugging and 5th in OPS.

He's also 2nd on the team in XBH%.

And, to address Farmer, post -- 14 of Gattis' HRs have been off righties.

I'd say the choice is pretty clear here.

You make good points but I just think Straw might be more of a weapon than Gattis. I do trust Hinch but that doesn't mean I can't wonder about it. Of course, this is all just my opinion and Hinch knows may more than I do.

Keeping Gattis over Straw was the right move.

The way I see it is its not a Gattis vs Straw thing. Gattis is a better MLB player than Straw. 100%, no doubt.

My question is how is Gattis going to effect this series. Is he starting vs Price or Sale over White? I cannot think of a single situation where he's a better option than the guys we have in our normal line up when it comes to facing the Red Sox pen.
Altuve - No
Springer - No
Bregman - No
Marwin - No
Yuli - No
Kemp - No
Reddick - No, not with him being a lefty
White - Probably not (see losing the DH job)
Machete - maybe, but usually you want the L/R matchup
Correa - Maybe, but I don't see it happening

So he's likely not starting at DH and he's likely not a better hitting option. What role does he serve?

Straw, on the other hand, fills a roll has a much likelier chance of making an impact on the basepaths every single night.

Over 162 I want Gattis because he's shown to be a plus power hitting in the bigs. Over 7, I want whoever helps me the most right now.

I'd use kemp and white in both a DH role and a PH role over gattis. The fact that straw might only get used a handful of time is irrelevant imo bc the times you are going to use are going to be crucial game deciding situations and well worth the spot.

Straw was on the ALDS for his base stealing only and had nothing to do with defensive capabilities or which side of the plate he batted from.

Now some will argue PR is marsnicks role. But what happens when marsnick comes in as a defensive replacement in the 7th or 8th and we have a tie or 1 run game in the 9th and HAVE to steal a base do or die? You've already used that weapon.

For me it just boils down to gattis is a wasted spot bc we have better options at both PH and DH

But here's to hoping gattis his a 3 run dinger this series

This may have been discussed already, but what is the expected rotation for Astros pitchers? I know Game 1 and 2 is Verlander and Cole. Would 3 and 4 be expected to be Kuechel and Morton? Then back to Verlander for Game 5?

I agree with Bullard. Gattis isn't going to play much at all and chances are he will just pinch hit. Is he a good pinch hitter? Maybe. But straw is basically an automatic double which could be huge in a close game

Can Cora even think of pitching Kelley in this series? Haven't the Astros crushed that guy the last two years?

All the discussion yesterday about how good the analytic group is and today everyone loses their minds over the last roster spot. I have I think Hinch and Lunhow poured over the data. They wouldn't have made the selections they did on a whim. They know something.

Don't forget that Gattis is also our emergency third catcher..

So, do we want Straw and Stassi and leave off a RP and Gattis

I agree. But we're all allowed to have an opinion. I'm sure AJ and Jeff saw a lot of positives to multiple options on the roster.

Got back just in time to see Woodruff (Brewers P) put one over the fence on Kershaw.
