The Astros' pitching has been impressive all season long and allowed just 126 runs through 50 games this season, the fewest in the live ball era (since 1920). Plenty has been said about the Astros' rotation, and with good reason, as they have the American League's top three starting pitchers in ERA. But don't forget about the bullpen, which also leads the AL in ERA (2.96) and WHIP (1.08). White was good in his time up last season.
True. He's also 27 and had a .664 OPS when he got his shot to play regularly (276 PAs in 84 games)

Too small of a sample size in my opinion for either, but last year's success shows improvement (and we all saw what he is capable of doing). The point being is that he is still an unknown at the Major League level so do not write him off yet. Plus, he has a great and consistent track record in the minors.

But there are only so many major league opportunities. Do you think a guy who'll be 28 next year (not sure there will be a shot this year for him) is worth giving another shot? I'm not so sure. I'd rather a younger guy with more pop like Reed be giving that shot.

What real changes did he make other than send down Marisnick and bring up Kemp?

The JD Davis call up was due to Fisher going to DL.

The hand-wringing and panic has been about much more than just Marisnik not hitting.

I don't think we're going to be making any roster moves as far bringing guys up.

I think when Fisher comes off the DL he or Davis will go to AAA. When Reddick comes back I think Jake will go back down.

I think JD deserves to be up here but I don't know how he can get the regular ABs on the big club.

Kemp will remain on the team as I think he brings a lot to the bottom of the order. I'd love to see an OF of Kemp, Springer, Reddick.

only problem with Kemp is his lack of arm strength in the outfield.

only problem with Kemp is his lack of arm strength in the outfield.

This is true, but I think he'll be fine in LF (especially at home) and Jake or Marwin as a late inning defensive replacement.

At this point that's all Jake and Fisher are...Late inning defensive replacements and pinch runners.

i'm not ready to write off Derek Fisher and you're right about Kemp at Minute Maid. the problem is playing away from home.

I still maintain Tony Sipp should be DFA or released.

Kemp and Davis need to remain on this roster when reddick comes back. There is no point in carrying that many pitchers when the back half of our lineup has struggled how they have at times this season.

Personally would keep starting kemp in LF for awhile and a few times a week plug marwin out there for some spot starts.

Watching the WCF last night reminded me why I like MLB so much better.

There is a wide gap of the haves and havenots in MLB, but baseball truly is a team game. Each year, there is usually a young, upstart team playing over its head. I like that. Teams with superstars also have a mix of young players.

In the NBA, you need to have an all-star team or have a team with a legitimate superstar to compete. It really isn't compelling to watch -- especially since so many teams make the playoffs.

Then, we need to talk about the officiating. The NBA's is all over the place and inconsistent. Fouls seem to extremely subjective. A few non-calls or close calls can completely change the momentum of a game.

In MLB, the only inconsistency is the strike zone. Batters get several pitches and plate appearances to adjust. They know when they can't take close pitches. They are able to adjust. Also, players are either out or safe.

MLB is doing so many things right, right now. Their product on the field is engaging. With all the games, they matter. If you don't win your division, the chances of playoffs are slim. In NBA, regular season games really don't matter since more than half make the playoffs.

Don't look now but Sipp has dropped his ERA from 5.68 to 3.48 in the month of May. During that stretch he's pitched 5 innings and allowed just 5 hits and 1 run (it was earned) and has a 1.80 ERA.

Now I'm not proclaiming that all of a sudden he's earning his contract, but he has sown some improvement and signs of life.

I will agree that I'm not too keen of carrying the extra pitcher given that our starters have proven that they can go deep into games.

About the only thing that is an actual real need. The bullpen has been pretty good outside of the one game. The games early in the season they "blew" were also corresponding with the offense being horrid.

Totally agree about Kemp and Davis. I also agree that ideally we'd DFA Sipp and not carry a 13th pitcher but don't think that's gonna happen yet.

IMO we need to make up an injury for Marwin when Reddick is ready to be activated. He needs a new approach. Feasting on fastballs doesn't work when pitchers know you're feasting on fastballs. Maybe some of his advanced metrics look ok, but the sample size on his .620 OPS is getting larger by the day and none of his splits look promising.

Nearly every appearance other than a few (he had 1 last week) sipp is coming in when the game is out of reach for the most part. Those recent numbers mean little imo as he is simply being used to fill innings and get the game over with.

We have seen enough of Sipp over the last 3 years know he just isn't good. Just don't understand the point of keeping the guy on the roster unless you are trying to work out a trade with someone and he is just an added player which I guess is possible.

Davis/fisher/kemp are all much more important than a washed up lefty who only gets in during blowouts imo.

All of our relievers aside from Giles and Harris are posting excellent numbers in May. I agree that one more reliable arm would be nice for our pen, but I think our overall bullpen is probably one of the best in baseball thus far this year.

But here's the deal to me with Marwin. Despite is offense, he creates his value by being able to play every position and play it above average. They are going to keep a guy like that on the roster.

He absolutely needs to work on breaking balls down in the zone though. That's where they are striking him out.
