Angels losing to TB 4-0 in the 7th. Looks like Verlander might have put them in a slump.

OK...Off day rant time

I can't be the only one who gets chapped when I hear people say "JV threw a complete game shutout."

A shutout is a complete game. It's not a shutout if not's a complete game. You wouldn't say he threw a complete game no-hitter.

I want to stop and correct everyone I hear that says that. So fckin frustrating.

Not all baseball fans are delicate genius types like yourself. They are broadcasting to the common denominator and letting average Joe fan know what happened. Many casual fans probably assume a shoutout is just no runs allowed by a team rather than the statistical CG + zero ER definition.

I heard on MLB that the Mets tried to make a trade with us involving (among other players) Matt Harvey for Stassi shortly before they dealt him to Cincinnati. Astros were not interested in Harvey and did not offer anything else compelling enough, but I thought it was interesting that they think enough of Stassi to try to make a midseason deal.

0-4 last night. But hey, only 2 K's so he's already improving!

I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Given it's Game 1, it's hard not to bet the under, but since Clevinger has nice stats and Morton is on the mound it's best if you put your money on the over.

Go ahead and add this to the Verlander embarrassing hitters gif library

And here's a pretty good in-depth article on JV's late career resurgence.

Verlander Finds Another Gear

Quote:

Verlander has been nothing but nasty to hitters this year. He hasn't allowed a single run in five of his 10 starts (of the other four, two were six innings, one was seven and one was eight) and has allowed two runs or fewer in eight straight and nine of 10. Through those 10 starts, he leads the majors in ERA (1.05) and is tied with teammate Gerrit Cole in WAR (2.7). Meanwhile, he's third in the AL in FIP (2.20), K% (32.8%) and K-BB% (27.3 points). His 25 ERA- is 10 points lower than Pedro Martinez's 35 in 2000, the lowest full-season mark since the start of the 20th century.

And for Tyler Bauer

Quote:

As Jeff Sullivan detailed last fall, Verlander's rebound has had a lot to do with an increase in slider usage and decrease in the velocity of that pitch, thus facilitating more drop a trend that predates the trade.

I like Stassi and you have to think he is the starting catcher next year.

Its too damn bad I don't think we'll get a shot at him this series or next. We may have to wait until the postseason. Even then it'll probably be ALCS if it happens.

I didn't really know what to expect from Stassi when the year began... But you're 100% right. I think he is our starting catcher for the better part of the next decade.

He did go but since Bucknor was likely napping at 3rd we didn't get the call.

Gattis in his career is bad, I mean really bad, against Cleveland. 60 PA, strikes out 43.3% of the time, OPS of .537 and a +wRC of 46. Maybe Hinch knows something.

Reddick scratched from the lineup. Fisher in RF as the replacement. "left leg irritation" is the reason

Harry Dunne
How long do you want to ignore this user?
True, but at least they cover a lot of ground and I'd rather have speed out there than a couple of water buffaloes with rocket arms.

When you think about how much outfielders use their legs to cover ground versus how few times a game their arm even comes into play, it's really not that big of a deal to have a noodle arm, especially in left.
