The trade would be with doing just to see rangers fans gnash their teeth over the decision of whether or not to root for the Astros to win again and get Beltre a ring.

Beltre wins his ring with the Astros and goes into the hall of fame in the Navy and Orange.
speaking of which, what do you think it would take for Verlander to wear an Astros cap on his plaque? Do you think winning another title would make it a tough call for him?

It's not up to the players anymore right?

What? That's messed up if so.

How does the HOF determine which team a guy goes in as a member of?

I think it's length of service. They decided to intervene after the Rangers put a clause in Ryan's final contract requiring him to wear their hat. And then Tampa Bay tried to do something similar with Wade Boggs.

I've not seen anything that him going in in a Rangers hat was a contractual deal.
Vlad got to choose the Angels even though he spent more time in Montreal. Also Maddux and LaRussa chose to have no logo. I don't think MLB pushes a cap on anyone, though it makes sense that they would not let teams force it on a player like the Boggs and Ryan examples.

Quote:

"My wife Kathy and I grew up in baseball in Chicago, and then we had just an amazing experience in Atlanta with the Braves. It's impossible for me to choose one of those teams for my Hall of Fame plaque, as the fans of both clubs in each of those cities were so wonderful. I can't think of having my Hall of Fame induction without support of both of those fan bases, so, for that reason, the cap on my Hall of Fame plaque will not feature a logo." - Greg Maddux
Can't imagine he would pitch much more than 3-4 years for us, but you would think if we could squeeze another title out of this core of players, it might be a tough choice for him.

Good thing I was already asleep at this point. My heart can't take it.
Same.

It was frustrating to watch AJ continue to use Beltran last year, but he sat him when the games really mattered at the end and similar deal with Kenny G. I respect that he doesn't give up on his guys, even when it costs us. I think that type of loyalty inspires confidence in other players and helps them when they are struggling.

The wiki page on the hall goes into this. It has always been up to the Hall what was worn but they previously deferred to the player. Now they will take their wishes into consideration but will decide against them. It says they choose the team where they feel they made their most indelible mark. Gary Carter wanted to go in as a Met but they put him as an Expo. Boggs was ultimately put in with a Boston hat.

I haven't seen anything anywhere that would suggest Ryan's decision was due to a contract. There was an Astros Country article that seemed to be suggesting that it could have been in part because of the GM when he left the Astros. For what it's worth, I also found Boggs denies that there was ever a clause in his contract regarding cap selection.

Personally, I think it's why the players like him so much and trust him. He trust them just as much as they trust him.

I think that paid dividends for us in the post season last year and probably is paying dividends in this rough offensive stretch.

I think Beltran has a better chance at going in as an Astro than JV.

And that's only because his career was kind of spread out and he doesn't seem to identify with one certain team so why not. He had his historic run in 04 here and won his ring here.

That said I don't think either one wears an Astro hat in Copperstown.

If I had to guess I would expect the next Astro in Cooperstown to be Altuve.

Beltran is a weird one. In terms of his best seasons he should probably go in as a Met but the team didn't do much while he was there. Obviously the two seasons he was with the Astros were successful but I'm not sure what his quantifiable impact was on them. I'd assume he ultimately goes in as a Met.

Heard a surprising stat yesterday regarding the HOF:

19% of players who have 100 or more ABs by the time they are 20 years old make the Hall of Fame. Speaks so much to how good you have to be to come up and contribute by that age.

That being said, Correa fits the bill.

I like Lance and he is one of the best switch-hitters of all time, but I am not sure he did enough to get in to Cooperstown.

It was really good to see the Astros win a tight, low-scoring game for a change. While they've done great in one-sided slug-fests, the graphic they showed on TV last night showed them to be only 3-10 so far in games decided by either one or two runs.

I think winning a WS pushes Beltran into the HOF. I also think he goes in as a Royal or a Met (it's a toss up really).

That's cool!

Remember when it was rough to see and hear George do a postgame interview with Julia? He's gone from a stuttering, shy, budding prospect to a face of the franchise WS MVP. He's now in HEB commercials, doing stuff like this video, being mic'ed up at the ASG last year.

I know we've discussed on here how hard it is going to be to keep this core together, but I hope we find some way to do it because it's gonna be really hard to ever see George play in a uniform that doesn't say Houston across the chest.

Kudos to George! And here's to hoping he's a lifelong Astro

He was better as a Met. More GG, SS, AS, etc.

I looked at his numbers a few months back and I thought he was close but short. I don't see how the ring helps his case much. He only slightly contributed more than you.

Please stop with this nonsense

I realize it's somewhat tongue in cheek but Beltran had a large part to play in winning a WS. Maybe not on the stat sheet but it was evident both during the run and somewhat with the struggles this year that he was a figure in that clubhouse that had a big impact on that team's success.

You cant be serious. Numerous players have said how beneficial it was having him on the team. Like having another coach on the team. How he would study hours of film and tell players when a pitcher was tipping his pitches. He might be the main reason we were able to jump all over Yu the way we did.

We might not have even beaten Boston in game 4 without him.... his RBI in the 9th was the difference in the game
