Sipp is a wasted roster spot

So much this

He has a total of 6 IP. His 5+ ERA aside, that's not worth not having an extra bat.

I can understand carrying an extra pitcher in a situation like last year where our starters are struggling with getting deep and we were using the BP extensively, but at this point our starters are workhorses and there's no need for Sipp.

Plus I'd just feel better having someone named T. Sipp off the roster AMIRITE?

I'm making my first trip of the year down to the juice box tomorrow, anything new this year at the ballpark I need to check out? Is the trophy displayed somewhere?

Would love to know what our front office is thinking with Sipp right now.

Do they have any reasonable expectation that Sipp could be counted on to get a key lefty out later this year? [<-- the odds of this seem small]

Or are we just trying to showcase him in mop up duty a little, hoping that some stupid team out there sees something they like and eats a little bit of his salary as part of a trade? [<--- the odds of this seem very small]

Seems like he's just a pure waste of $6 million and a roster spot this year, like he was in 2016 and 2017.

I was actually curious how our stars performed in their first ~86 ABs. Springer was remarkably similar:

Davis:

86 AB, 9 R, 20 H, 4 2B, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 1 SB, 1 CS, 8 BB, 29 SO, 0.233 AVG

Springer:

88 AB, 6 R, 20 H, 4 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 1 SB, 2 CS, 6 BB, 33 SO, 0.227 AVG

Glad we didn't write Springer's slow start off to it being all mental.
Look, you guys may be right. But I was at two of our Baltimore games in that first home series and he looked completely over matched. Bad approach looked like a black hole in the lineup.

That's the memory that stood out - I hadn't looked at stats at all. I don't remember the Minnesota series, but looks like he had a decent series there, still didn't have a single extra base hit in those first nine games though.

I'm willing to give him another chance to see if he has overcome the mental block, but you don't release Gattis in order to give him that chance just yet. I would like to drop Sipp too, but it is clear that isn't an option for whatever reason.

Rangers be like... "We're 24-15 too!"

Astros... "It's not a L/W record, you got it backwards bro"

Rangers... "We can put it in whatever order we want!"

The trophy is in the union station team store

I could see Sipp and Gattis going to a non-contender to give them some "MLB" guys at the trade deadline along with the prospects they would receive. Similar to Aoki for Liriano last year.

Some hope for Lefty relievers:

Looking at the numbers this year compared to past, it looks like Guduan has figured it out in AAA. His previous years numbers weren't good when brought up to the majors, and was bad when brought up. His numbers are good this year so might now be ready for the big league team.

Cionel Perez is doing great in Corpus Christi. Don't think he'd be brought up this year but might make his way to the team next year.

I'm still mad about the Astros not getting Sean Dolittle last year. How great would he look in this pen. He's currently closing for the Nats.

No shlt.

They got Madson and Doolittle for dirt cheap

Yes... Using Sickels scale the Nats sent

Sheldon Neuse, 3B, B-
Jesus Luzardo, LHP, C
& Blake Treinen

This would been similar to us sending:

JD Davis, AJ Reed, Colin Moran, or Tyler White
Reymin Guduan
& James Hoyt

Honestly, the Astros package would have been much stronger than the Nats.

Well, if you're looking at a two game (or nine game) sample size, Altuve can look pretty overmatched at times with a bad approach. So can Springer, Correa, or any other player on our roster. Bregman started out god awful if I remember correctly.

My point is, his sample size is not nearly big enough to have a read on what kind of player he will be. He will get another extended shot at some point, and he may pan out, or he may not. Too early to tell right now.

Buddy of mine ran into Gattis last night at Specs. Gattis got two sixers and a pack of smokes. Read into that what you will. Fortnite party with the boys, blowing off some steam, or drowning the sorrows of a terrible start to the season.

Someone needs to tweet back at Lance that maybe if they win some games at home we'd make some accommodations for them.

Glad the roof is open and still can't figure out why our players (especially one who isn't even playing) have to bltch and complain.

Whew so much saltiness toward our team!

I remember the days when we would raise holy hell about the roof not being closed during the playoffs even though the weather was fantastic. Some of you guys need to get on Lithium.

Exactly. When it's a packed electric playoff atmosphere and the roof being closed actually makes for a legit home field advantage.

In May if it's 85 degrees, clear, and breezy they need open that MFer up. I love watching and going to games with the roof open. We're headed out tot he game Saturday and I hope it stays open.

Well, he's not likely to DH his back up catcher in Stassi. I know Gattis could serve that role, but he's not good behind the plate. So that leaves Fisher and Marisnick to replace him. Since we're facing a lefty, Fisher is out. So there's Marisnick. You want him in the lineup?

Until Luhnow makes roster changes, there aren't really a lot of options for Hinch.
