I'm very skeptical of odor.DallasAg 94 said:
I've been as critical as any, of JD. Not terrible to extend him, as he has certainly put some skins on the wall. I had recently questioned the Owners direction and whether they were going to dump him... and that has been answered.
I'm curious about the players we've drafted. It won't take much to get this team winning, the question is can he pull the right strings.
Some of these young guys are exciting (IKF, Mazara, Guzman, Gallo) and we have some pieces to infuse additional talent (Hamels, Profar, Beltre).
Many on here had written off Andrus. Then wrote off Choo. And now Odor. I still contend, if Odor is slumpimg after the big contract and gets his head out in 2019 or 2020... we could end up with a SS, 2B and 3B with some of the gaudiest Offensive numbers All-Time. Beltre is like Top 2 or 3 in almost every stat for a player while playing 3B. Andrus and Odor have a lot of GP, for the age. Longevity like Beltre will be fun to watch.

There is also a huge negative trend that you should address. For the last 2 years, Odor has not even come close to looking like the same player. He has a low baseball IQ. He makes a lot of boneheaded and idiotic plays / decisions on both offense and defense.DallasAg 94 said:gigem1223 said:

Not trolling... Give me 2 players with more GP @2B, HRs and RBIs by the same age Odor is.
Not Altube
Not Biggio.
Not Jeff Kent.
Not Nap Lajoi.
Not Cano.
286 RBI, 89 HRs, 582 GP @ age 24. And most on here are ready to dump him.
Give me the Top 5 offensive 2B All-Time. Joe Morgan?
In GP, I'm thinking Rogers Hornsby and Eddie Collins. Both of whom had little in terms of RBI and HRs.

How many times have we seen pitchers get behind him 3-1 or 2-1 then the pitcher throws a ball in the dirt because he knows odor is swinging no matter what.
The only guy I've seen " get himself out" more over the last 2 years than Odor is Joey Gallo. At least Gallo tries to get walks tho. I think a lot of rangers fans have decided that odor is a headache that they would rather do without.
From the outsider perspective, yes that about sums it upMSFC Aggie said:
Andrus and Choo seem like nice guys. Odor seems like a tool. I think it boils down to that. If he was on another team, I think most of us wouldn't like him.

I saw that one coming when they signed him

I don't understand why Gallo will not lay a bunt down the third base line with that drastic of a shift on. Especially when he's leading off an inning.
What a moron on the field...free_mhayden said:
1) No one ever wrote off Andrus or Choo (and most have not written off Odor). What they blasted was the contracts. Elvis contract looks to be a good one, but Choo and Odor have contracts that are untradeable.
2) You don't have to spend time with a guy to know if he has a high/low baseball IQ. Just because a player may know what to do in a certain situation, if he can't do it in live play then he's got a low baseball IQ... So anyone that watches Odor regularly could have a solid opinion on that without spending time with the guy.
unless you've spent time with him you don't know?DallasAg 94 said:Grapesoda2525 said:There is also a huge negative trend that you should address. Unless you've spent time with him... you really don't kniw if he has a low baseball IQ.
A lot of what you mention are stupid mental mistakes likely related to a lack of focus or trying to be too aggressive. Lots of what you see from minor leaguers. Yes, he reminds us a lot of Kinsler. He can be ffustrating to watch. He is also the age most players are just getting brought up, so it gets addressed before we see it. Go to Frsco and you will see much of the same.
I find it difficult to believe at 20, he could play 114 games in MLB and put up the stats he did, and not know baseball.
Give me 1 or 2 players to compare his age 20 stats.

I'm fully convinced Condor is a top 3 defensive 1B already. I'm not sure I've ever seen someone that can stretch like this before.

Dude, what are you saying? Astros fans know all about sequencing and things...
IKF is evaluated differently because he's a rookie and doesn't have a 50 million dollar contract. Get that non sense out of here.Rossko said:
Just checking in to see if the folks who criticize every Odor AB came to do the same for IKF watching 3 straight strikes to end the first with the bases loaded.
