Rua and Profar just do the season in reverse. They get their September callup out of the way in April each year.
It's really cool that we have a guy making $20 million this year, that can't find a spot in the lineup when Beltre wants a day off...

Nevermind that they can't hit either (outside Mazara, but Mazara shouldn't be out there anyhow).

Claudio is their best pitcher and not just because he's man enough to still pitch with a big ass chaw in.
If the starting pitching stays healthy and the bullpen doesn't go mental, they'll win enough to be competitive. But you just can't invent offense with these parts. Even if Beltre stays healthy and Gallo gets better, there are just too many holes 7 - 9. Too early to pronounce doom, but they need about 6 - 8 things to all break their way to crest 85 wins.
Worst case for Elvis is Michael Young. I personally think he's on an HoF trajectory. Would hate to see him moved, like we did with Pudge.

Gonna be a long year. Losing DD is huge.
Unfortunately there's just not much to look forward to this year. I know we are only 4 games in, so hopefully I'm wrong, but I just don't see it this year.
I wish I could say losing DD is huge, but if 2/3 of Minor/Moore/Fister aren't sub 4.00 pitchers, then it doesn't really matter who we have batting.

And that is sad. Losing a ho-hum, average OF, who is about as average a player as we have... is a HUGE loss. Because we have so many below average guys.

It has been a heck of a run so I understand that at some point you have to rebuild/reload but it just sucks that they didn't get a championship out of that prolonged run.

And $25-30M of that is going to guys like Minor, Moore, Fister, Jepsen, Lincecum.
They have a terrible rotation. Their key prospects are 2 years away. Two of their best SPs are likely to have TJ surgery.
Looking back, Arlington should not have approved the new stadium. As it is... the Rangers just stuck it to them.

I just don't have a problem to the approach for this season. Wanna sign another Shin Soo Choo, Kevin Millwood, or the like and hook this team up with some albatross contracts when moving into the new stadium? This is a sell season, not a buy. It's ok. They are actually overdue for doing something like this.
It's not like they've gone all Tom Hicks and decided they're just gonna run this thing on the cheap for good. They surveyed the talent on hand (holes everywhere), surveyed the division right now (strong), and decided that not hooking themselves up to deals that are probably bad deals in 3 years wasn't a good idea.
