Your (The Texas Rangers) season ended yesterday. It is now "the off season" between next season and what just finished, AKA last season. Its not "this season", even though it was a day ago in the same way September is last month even though it was 2 days ago.
Now, this is the key point, so follow me here. To say "this season" implies that you are still playing, and last I looked you aren't. We are, and so for the Astros "this season" is still ongoing. The Rangers, not so much.
So since "last season" was 2017, that makes 2016 two seasons ago.

I've never heard anyone prior to you refer to the previous season as "two years ago" before the post season even starts. You're right. What you're trying to pass off as a common way of looking at it wasn't a difficult explanation to grasp. It's just a convoluted way to try and make it sound like it was farther back than it actually was.
But I digress, at the end of the day, tie breaks weren't discussed, you tried to use the draft as the tie break, were wrong about how the draft works and here we are.

Definitely rooting for the Astros as they are my second favorite team, but if there is a way to see them win and, at the same time, screw over most of the Astros posters here, I'm all for it.
I would typically root for a Texas team once my team is out, but that isn't the case with Houston based teams, because of their fans.
