We all know he's not going to stay at a 160+ wRC+. But that doesn't mean I still can;t correct your silly comments.

Sure sure, sabermetrics are silly when they don't say that the Astros are the greatest team of all time. A career below average hitter just magically became one of the best in the league. He's a free agent this offseason. Y'all gonna step up to the plate and pay for those numbers?

Those same sabermetrics suggest he's a completely different hitter too. Sure he's going to regress... but he's very likely a much more productive than he ever has been.

He's a free agent. Maybe yal can sign him to play 2nd.

Reading comprehension doesn't appear to be your strong point. Expected.

And now the "trash talk" moves on to if we sign out utility All Star snub or not after the season. I guess you gotta dig extra deep when you're 15 games back on the 4th of July.

We won the April, May, and June titles. Will we land the July one too? Is there "still a lot of baseball to play"?

You see, some of us like to dig into the numbers and see if a trend is sustainable. Others like to bury their heads in the sand and ignore the data. Really sad that so many baseball fans are so sabermetrically illiterate.

Congrats on finding a couple of stats that fit your narrative and stick to it. By all means don't look at the big picture. I really hope your front office the same ideaology as you.

Oh I guess they do since they extended a replacement level 2nd baseman for the better part of a decade.

That article uses BABIP compared to career average to project how he should be hitting. At the time he was unlucky, now he's swung to the other end of the spectrum and the same trend still applies. He's hitting the ball softer and has an unsustainable BABIP. He's going to regress, no matter how much you want to plug your ears and deny it. Sooner or later those Texas leaguers are gonna start falling within the range of the middle infield and the long flies are gonna stop at the track and Marwin is gonna come back down to earth.

Irish and I can't repeat this a dozen more times. We all know he's going to regress. No one is saying otherwise.

And when he does he will still be better than any of those AAAA players in Arlington.

You really don't believe anything you type, do you? Or is this just your troll? I don't even know why I am asking, it is the second, because you can't prove anything wrong here:

True points (that none of us are denying):
  • Marwin is having a great year - especially as a utility player
  • He is due for some regression (no joke - he isn't going to maintain a 1.000 OPS), partially due to HR distance and BABIP/softly hit balls
  • He hits pull home runs down the line, not towering center field blasts - the main cause of this distance discrepancy

Our points:
  • Even that regression wouldn't return him to his previous numbers - he is a changed player (but obviously not a 40 HR guy)
  • He attributes this to some changed swing mechanics and approach he worked on during the off season (shown through his BB% among other things)
  • He probably benefits from the rest that comes from being a utility player that other players don't get (regression would be sharper if he was an every day player). He also benefits from being a switch hitter

My points: yes he's clearly improved, but it's unlikely he ends up much better than a 100 wRC+ hitter in the long run. And back to my original point, if y'all are gonna **** on Odor's numbers when the peripherals show he's been tremendously unlucky, it should be pointed out that y'all's "snubbed All Star" has been the benefit of some extraordinary luck in the other direction.

Also Carlos Gomez rulez

From this point forward I'd put money on Marwin being a >100 wRC+ hitter.

Odor has been unlucky, but his k and bb rate are in a bad bad way if I'm not mistaken.

Unlucky with balls put in play.

But his plate approach? .......woof. Far from unlucky.
Ag2012
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Oh his plate approach is garbage but that's not unusual for a 23 year old in the bigs. He's never going to be a high BB% guy but he should mature into a pretty decent hitter. And he throws a mean right hook.

Yeah... however it's not unusual for the Astros. Bregman is 23 and his approach is miles better than Odor's... Correa also, but I guess he shouldn't count... He's only 22.

Oh, and before this season, Marwin's has had 2 seasons of 110 wRC+ in 2014 and 2015.

Sorry to my Houston friends but Fort Worth has the best fireworks show I've ever seen. Way better than anything Houston had. That's the only thing though.
