You talk like anybody has said there's no such thing as a rebuild. All anyone has actually said is that you don't have to suck as bad as you guys did for as long to do it. That's it.
Who gives a phock how many games you lose when you're rebuilding anyway. Wow, we only averaged 94.3 losses per year during our rebuild to you guys 103.6. #pwned

I will say the Rangers kind of resemble the 2006 - 2010 Astros. Yall's farm isn't quite as bad as ours was at the time, but it's looking pretty bad.

Ace who will prob have to be traded (Oswalt) - Darvish

Aging outfielder on the decline (Carlos Lee) - Gomez, Cruz

Aging hall of fame IF (Biggio) - Beltre

Young talented outfielder who won't be enough to build a franchise around (Pence) - Mazara

A 2B who just straight sucks (Kaz Matsui) - Odor

Basically, when your FO starts selling off your future for some guys who will only be good enough to let you hang around .500 for a few years, then you know you're in trouble. So maybe y'all should start thinking about tanking...

It'll look a lot worse after they are buyers at the deadline again thanks to that 10 game winning streak.

What obsession? Acting like the guy is some spare was idiotic.

And the only reason you boys want to ignore past performance is because you have none to really talk about at this point.

Based off what? Again, the Rangers sucked for 35 years before they were remotely competitive, and then were mediocre at best for another 15 years. What "universal standard" are you basing your opinion on? Certainly not your own franchise's.

Oh brother, this precious little canard again. Prior to 2010 the Astros clearly had more history to talk about. You would have to be ******ed to argue otherwise.

The Rangers have recent history (from 2010 till last year). That's about it.

Based on recent history which is the most relevant to these two teams and this thread. Neither team has exactly set the world on fire over the life of their franchises.

A good front office doesn't let that window close, and that's what the Rangers have.

Except of course the architect of the Astros success is now four GMs removed.

Protip #1: Good front offices don't have four different GMs in 5 years.

Protip #2: Good front offices don't have 8 different managers in 9 years.

Are you suggesting even though the team was sold, the front office should have stayed the same?

So the front office is just the GM?

You are simply delusional if you think the Rangers are going to magically avoid some rebuilding years.

If the Yankees, the richest and most successful franchise in baseball couldn't do it, historically bottom dweller Rangers won't do it.

Judas Priest man. The Rangers were sold in 2010 when they won the West for the first time since foreever. If the Astros had won the Central in 2011, I'm sure Ed Wade would have been retained. Plus I hated ed wade so talking crap about him being a GM does not compute.

We'll see how patient the front office is with Daniels once the rebuild happens.

Will they have years of rebuilding? Absolutely. But this idea that they've got this "window" of being a postseason team and they are in trouble when it closes has been proven false time and time again.

Everyone said it would happen after Cliff Lee left. They returned to the postseason.

Everyone said it would happen when Feliz and Cruz pissed away a WS. They returned to the postseason.

Everyone said it would happen when Los Angles signed Pujols/Hamilton. They returned to the postseason.

Everyone said it would happen when Prince Fielder's contract was set to hang like an albatross. They returned to the postseason.

Hell, Houston fans of all people should have learned their lesson about counting Texas out... "Come and Get It"... And they did... Again.

I realize it's a foreign concept to Houston fans as they had to literally have one of the worst 4 year stints in the history of Major League Baseball in order to become competitive (and thus far in 2 years it's netted them 1 wildcard and one watching playoffs from home), but if you have a decent farm system, a sharp GM, and owners willing to spend money then you can stay competitive for a very long time and your rebuilds are very short.

Maybe Hamels is completely broken. Maybe Beltre has played his last meaningful out. Maybe Yu walks.

But this team has averaged 88 wins the last 8 seasons and they are about to build a new stadium (read: selling new season tickets) with two big money guys behind it that aren't afraid to spend money on the roster. Good luck betting on this team not to be competitive, you'll continue to look silly.
