It might just be my orange tinted shades, but I really think LMJ will have a dominant night. All he has been hearing is how he "can't stay healthy," "can't pitch more than 5 innings," "not a real starter." I don't know, but I just feel like he goes out there and shows everyone why he was an All-Star selection and proves a lot of people (and a lot on this board) wrong tonight. I've got that little tingle in my balls that has me feeling it

The dude is a passionate gamer, and I expect nothing less than stare downs after every strike out and yelling, "LETS ****ING GO!" after every half inning. I'm excited

I agree, but I would prefer Dallas to pitch in MMP and Verlander in Yankee, but that aint happening.
Yeah, that was out the window once the Boston series went to four games.

I will say though that the extra day off for Verlander might be nice since he threw a complete game Saturday.

Maybe a semi-throat slash or 2.

Another positive note for us: Momentum in baseball does not generally carry over game to game. Each game is a clean slate.

Again, good point. Meant to use the post to illustrate the point that the guys didn't let Yankee Stadium intimidate them then - and shouldn't now.

He's got all the on motivation in the world. The wanting to prove everyone wrong is powerful stuff.

All this talk about who we are/should be pitching. The bottom line is our pitching doesn't matter unless our bats heat up. 5 runs in 3 games is way, way below our average. I think we start today....

LMJ going more than five innings (or even going five good innings) would be the craziest thing that's happened this postseason.

I posted this back before the series started:
Quote:

Since he came back Sept 24, he's pitched three times, and he went 3.1 innings, 4.1 innings, and 3+ innings.

On Sept 24: He had 3 good innings, and then in the fourth he gave up a homer and a lineout and was pulled.

On Sept 30: He had three good innings, then in the fourth he had a walk (who advanced on a wild pitch), then another walk, then a single and a double that scored those two runs. He did manage to get out of that inning though and was then pulled in the fifth, but I'd definitely say he struggled in the fourth inning.

Then in Game 3 against Boston: He had three good innings, and then in the fourth he walked the first guy, the second got a hit and then he was pulled.

So in the last three starts since he came back from his second injury stint, he's had three good innings every time and then things started to fall apart.

Lance has only thrown five innings while giving up four or fewer earned runs once since the beginning of July (9/6 against Seattle.)

I'm not saying it can't be done, but if he does it, it will be an extreme outlier compared to everything else he's done in the last three months.

if the bats can't at least break through against Gray, i think you have every right to worry

this lineup went into a complete shell after they left for Boston

Just did some searching on Statcast based on last nights game.

  • Both teams put 24 balls in play
  • The Yankees average exit velocity was 85.6 MPH
  • The Astros average exit velocity was 84.8 MPH
  • The Astros hit the three hardest balls of the game...only one was a hit
  • The Astros hit the furthest two balls of the game
  • The Yankees had four hits with an exit velocity under 80 MPH
  • The Astros had one hit with an exit velocity under 80 MPH
  • The Astros had eight walks
  • The Yankees had three walks and one HBP

Just crazy that that was a 8-1 game.

I disagree. game 2 had a lot of warning track shots.

Last night had a lot of good contact too.

Tanaka's stuff was ridiculous and so was CC's.

I think we are fine. And I think we mash Gray.

Did you not drink your coffee this morning? Decide to roll up a joint before work? Or did someone hack your account?

You're usually one of the more level heads around here.

1 fluky ass inning that lead to a fluky ass homer.

1 weird ass play by Maybin and one bad, and completely unnecessary pitch to Judge.

Just a weird game.

Well, it's a new day. If we had to lose a game, I guess I'd rather it not be a heartbreaker. Let's go out and kick some ass today.

If Lance goes out there and goes 3 up 3 down tonight hes gonna go 6 innings and give up 0 or 1 run.

It's crazy what a few feet to the right or left can do.

I thought for sure Correa had knocked one out - think the wind got that one.

While we would all obviously love a win today, I hope y'all remember that the sky won't fall if we lose. Lose today and then you toss out Keuchel the Yankee killer to steal their last home game, then you come home and pitch Verlander with a chance to close the series out. I know we got blasted last night but we still have a pretty nice advantage in the series, don't forget it.
I know its a "duh" statement, but we just need to win one of these next two. Give yourself at least two chances to close it out at home.

This. Do NOT want to come home having to win 2 games, especially a game 7 pitched by Johnny Wholestaff.....

I'm still not happy about the call on Castro. He turned left after running through the base and then took a half step to 2B. Thats a turn. He should have been out.

So I know we were all complaining about lack of primetime coverage for the Astros this postseason.

but if there is a game 7.... we got primetime over the NLCS game 6

small victories

I'm not. Gives me an excuse to duck out of the office an hour or two early today

No I'm just spit balling. And I'm not saying we should move anyone around. Just thinking out loud.

Like I said it's interesting to see how these things shake out and I think it's one aspect that makes the playoffs great.

I think how a front office/manager sets up the roster and rotation is somewhat overlooked aspect of a series.

I think it was genius for the Yanks to hold off CC until Gm 3. I didn't realize how good he was coming off a Yankee loss. They were expecting it to be tough with Dallas and JV in Gms 1 and 2 and put their stop gap guy in a nice spot.

Or, they didn't have a choice because he pitched game 5 of the Cleveland series.

No more special feelings tonight. It's obvious they don't mean jack.

I agree with that.

I said last night that he wasn't dominating or impressive by any means but he wiggled out of some jams and kept us scoreless until they could scratch across a few runs.

Yep. We actually had better contact off of CC than the Yankees had against Morton.

the Astros may have to do this like the 1987/1991 Twins did...only won their home games.

or like the 2001 Diamondbacks...only won Schilling and Johnson starts
titanmaster_race

They didn't have a choice. If he pitched any earlier in the series it would have been on short rest, which they didn't need to do because he'll still get to pitch 2 games in the series.
