and the Astros ALDS win also debunks the narrative about...

"Houston got all those wins vs. the mediocre AL West...would not have done this same in another division"

Yep!

And not to mention Betances is fckin lost right now. He doesn't scare me the least bit. Chapman though is a different story.

But we did just clinch a series on the road against Kimbrel so WGAS who we face.

The only thing I fear about Betances is he'll hurt or kill someone.

So have we talked about Strasburg not taking the ball today on full rest because he isn't feeling good? I just can't fathom it that your top pitcher available doesn't want to pitch in an elimination game

Media shamed him into starting

It's a win win for Dusty

Lose lose for Stars

He pitches a gem and they win: dusty claims credit for motivating his star plus they won. Stras gets questioned for why he needed to be shamed to sack up

He gets shelled and they lose: dusty says I told y'all he wasn't ready but the decision was taken out of my hand. Stras gets questioned for being soft and not sacking up when his team needed him

The media didn't shame him into starting. Turning it on the media is a joke.

He should've been starting the whole time. It's on him for not sacking up and taking the ball.

Strasburg deserves whatever backlash he gets.

Enjoyed the article. I think Bregman and Reddick are the guys you would want at bat in pressure situations for this team. Guys that get it done when the pressure is on is something the Astros have lacked for a long time.

I literally texted my friends "this is who I want up right now" when Beltran was up to bat.

Unfortunately the stats show otherwise on Reddick. That AB on Monday was amazing though.

I have tickets to home game 2 and still haven't seen JV pitch in person yet. Selfishly, I'm pulling for the yanks even harder now.

seems like that article is talking about Reddick's entire career.

in 2017 he has been clutch.

hit .346 w/RISP...that's pretty good isn't it?

and according to baseball reference, he hit .328 "close and late"
W

also counting the playoffs...

Reddick is up to 84 RBI on just 13 home runs.

that's still a remarkable ratio in this day and age
Drew_Hill

Yeah its definitely over his career and who really cares if he didn't hit well in close games late in meaningless games in Oakland. I was just surprised he was literally the least-clutch hitter of all time. Seems like hes been pretty clutch for us even before Monday.

Interesting question, does our pitching perform better with Verlander & Keuchel on the road and Morton & Peacock at home? I would think Morton/Peacock pitch better at home and Verlander/Keuchel are more likely to be themselves on the road. Maybe a silver lining if Cleveland wins.

Lance just on with Josh Innes and said Bregman would come in after each HR on Sale and yell "Yall wanted to trade me for him?!"

God, I love that Kid

also heard when the IF comes together to talk during the game (pitching conference, etc,) that they speak in Spanish and Bregs speaks fluently. Pretty cool.

Peacock has actually been a little better on the road this season than at home, and Keuchel is definitely better at home for whatever reason.

If it were going to be cold or something I'd like Verlander over our other guys just because he played in Detroit for so long, but that doesn't appear to be a factor this weekend.

DK and JV have both been much better at home versus road this year. The Indians have roughed up Verlander this year too, but those starts were in the first half of the year when JV was still struggling.

Peacock actually has better road numbers than home.

Several of the guys on this team have gone into Yankee Stadium in the postseason in a do-or-die and won. We won there 3 times this year. We have their number.

Good point in that article about hoping Gray comes in tonight in relief. If he does then the Yanks have to start Tanaka in Game 1 who has a 6.5 ERA on the road. Yes please.

Another really good write up giving us some props

The Astros are so much fun to watch this October

Quote:

The Houston Astros may not win the World Series this season. May not even make it past the Indians or the Yankees. But what they reminded us of in their American League Division Series against the Red Sox, one that ended with a wildly entertaining Game 4 that saw both Justin Verlander and Chris Sale pitch out of the bullpen for their teams, is that they are the most entertaining baseball team on the planet. Watching them play hardball is like watching the Golden State Warriors play basketball.

There are so many guys providing leadership for us right now, but, for me, everything comes back to Carlos Beltrn. In my opinion, that guy is the most respected player in all of baseball, bar none. He's a 20-year veteran, and he's just filled with wisdom. When he talks to anyone anyone! they listen. And it doesn't matter if he goes 0 for 4 or 4 for 4, he's going to find ways to help the team.
https://www.theplayerstribune.com/carlos-correa-astros-houston-playoffs/

I know it's already been posted, but that's a money quote from Correa right there.

Quote:

Carlos has taught me so many things, not just about baseball, but also just about life. We always go out to eat together when we're on the road, and after every one of those meals, when I'm going to sleep that night, I realize that I've learned like 10 new things. At least.

I love that guy, and he's become the heart and soul of this team.
Spoke too soon. More quotes.

Serious question...If Cora leaves for a manager gig (which I expect he will) should we offer Beltran his position as bench coach?

I say yes. If Beltran wants it it's his.
AstroAggie15

without a doubt. Everything I read says he is a huge asset to this team. You could not ask for a better bench coach, especially for your young latino players

A rod was saying how Beltran would show up early and watch 3 hours of films on pitchers and then provide intel to all the other players on what pitches to look for or how he might tip his pitches

I can't remember what game it was, maybe Game 4, but I remember seeing Beltran just staring at the Red Sox bullpen monitor as someone (Sale?) was warming up, trying to spot any kind of sign in the delivery. Just awesome to see a guy who's not in the game preparing like that and able to pass off info to everyone else.

Haha, just got a call from the Astros to come down for a watch party tonight with free food and drinks. They want to "meet the family" and talk about 2018 ticket packages and WS priority seating.

I felt kinda special for a minute!

They called me last season and offered me a tour of all of MMP in an attempt to try to get me to buy tickets. They never followed through.
