Going off who I want doesn't mean shlt. I don't want Gregerson anywhere near our playoff roster, but he's gonna be.

What I think they COULD do is pass on Lance and instead take Clippard or take another position player like Fisher.

It's just really tough not knowing WTF you're going to get out of Lance.

Does the org get to set a new roster for every round? Or is there just one "Playoff Roster" that has to be set next week?

So who would y'all rather than McCullers? Martes? Fiers? Sipp?

McCullers will definitely be on the post season roster
Lot's of team go to the playoffs without their 5th best starter on the roster.

Quit pretending that Fiers is better than McCullers

Or bring another catcher (Stassi and Centeno). Opens up a lot of options should we make it to the world series and want to pinch hit/run for whoever is catching.

Edit: Not sure if the roster is set prior to the playoffs or can be adjusted each round.

Come on now. In what world is Morton better than McCullers? Ya, Morton has been great this year, but let's not act like he's super man or anything

I think McCullers has better stuff and potential, but I wouldn't start McCullers based on what he should be able to do. Like you said, Morton has had a good season, McCullers hasn't.

McCullers game one, obviously.

Well, if the playoffs started tonight and I had to pick 4 starters to put on my roster...I'm not sure McCullers or Fiers makes my list.

You're not picking who to protect in a keeper fantasy league...you're choosing a playoff roster. Its all about the now.

Right now...I'd take Charlie over Lance in a heartbeat.

I think yall are downplaying Lance's situation. The guy has only pitched 8 innings since July 30th and in that month his ERA was over 9. In the entire 2nd half he either hasn't been good or hasn't been healthy.

It's a big roll of the dice trotting him out there in any situation.

McCullers post-ASB

23 innings pitched (over 5 starts)
31 hits / 11 walks allowed
20 earned runs
20 strikeouts
.326 BA against
7.83 ERA

Morton post-ASB
77.2 innings pitched (over 13 starts)
61 hits / 25 walks allowed
30 earned runs
91 strikeouts
.211 BA against
3.48 ERA

Not to mention that the FO (or at least Hinch) is not too happy about McCullers hesitation to take the ball much over the last several weeks. Kind of a "hurt versus injured" thing.

I'm not saying that lance should be a post season starter, or that he will be lights out. But I think he would be a great change of pace guy. Especially if you're throwing him before or after peacock

Whoa now...I wouldn't go that far.

From what I saw Lance has wanted to get back and the FO (and Hinch especially) were saying he wasn't right. Lance by all accounts has said he's felt fine and is ready to go.

I don't think him not wanting to take the ball has been an issue.

Marwin will and should start in LF. Maybin is the late defense, pinch runner.

I think that's bordering on over-thinking/over-managing the issue.

That's assuming his head is screwed on correctly. The kid can barely stay calm and collected in game 80 of the season at Home against the white soxs, how amped up will he be in the post season?

Just me personally but if he was starting a game 4 I would use him almost like a knuckleballer. If his pitches are moving and he can locate...then just roll with him for as long as you can. First sign of mechanic issues, over throwing, aiming the ball etc have either Morton or mccugh up in the pen and warming up quickly. Lance seems to roll along fine and then once gets into trouble he's done mentally

Just basing this on what I know from a scout friend. Take that for what it's worth, but it matches up (for me, anyway) with the report that Lance missed his spot in the rotation in Seattle (I think 9/4 or 9/5) even though he said he was "ok to pitch". Hinch said, "ok isn't good enough."

I tend to believe this guy based on past information shared, but it's not something I'm going to poopslap over.

Just want to repost for the afternoon crowd because the Astros haven't made an announcement about it or anything, but there are more tickets available on the website for the ALDS today. I scooped up a couple for game 2 earlier.

You think Marwin is going to be on the bench? He's going to be starting in LF for most post season games.

Maybin is your 4th outfielder.
Not gonna argue that, but Marwin is the "role player." That's also the way it's listed on the Astros Depth Chart, and that's what I used as a guide. I want Marwin starting every game.

It's always good to read stuff like this and confirm that this group really is as tight as they appear. Charlie is definitely one strange cat though

Morton strikes me as a thinking man. Maybe if he's still productive after 2018 and this team's core is still intact, he could be a solid bullpen arm.

Ah well you've got some more information I'm not privy to so I could very well be wrong. I was just going off interviews and reactions.

I don't know, but regardless the jury is out on Lance right now and at this point want to know what I'm getting out the pitchers.

Agreed.

You need 4 starters, and a bullpen. It'll all depend on how many bullpen arms Hinch and Lunhow want to carry during the first round.

Yes, and I've got faith in that. Guess I was thinking more about outright record. What would be the WS home field tie breaker if that were to happen? Coin flip?
