"I get hit many times, in my neck and shoulder and nobody says anything about it," Gomez said. "I just react and I told him, 'What do you want? You want to do this or do you want to play baseball?' I waited for him last time and he run like a little cat. You want to be tough when there are 50 men outside? Or do you want to be tough when you have me face to face and no one around? I'm here to play baseball. Every time I get blamed."

When has he ever been hit in the neck, besides with his own helmet as it flies off his hollow dome?

So how many times has rangers pitching nailed an Astro this year? Particularly altuve? Is that something easily looked up?
Jose Altuve has been hit 9 times this season. Never multiple times in a game.
ARL - 3
MIN - 2
OAK - 1
MIA - 1
NYM - 1
LAA - 1

May 1
Altuve gets plunked by Andrew Cashner on a 0-0 count with 2 outs in the 1st and no one on. Jose then proceeds to steal 2nd and scores on an E9. Benches cleared earlier when McCullers threw one behind Napoli. 'stros won 6-2.

June 14
Altuve gets plunked by Jeremy Jeffress on a 0-0 after he gave up 3 hits in a row. A HR by FIsher, a HR by Jake from Rakefarm, and a single to Springer. Altuve was also 3/3 with two doubles and a single before that AB. 'stros won 13-3

Spet 25
Altuve gets plunked by Jose Leclerc on a 3-1 count. Again this was in a game where the benches cleared earlier. Of course, 'stros win 11-2.

All 3 times he was HBP the Astros won easily. All 3 were Cashner starts.

Speaking of Cashner, he is now 10-11 on the year. The 'stros have given him 5 of those 11 losses.

"The second pitch, he took a big swing and fouled it off and took about five steps out toward the mound, looking me straight in the eye. I just asked him if we had a problem. It was a rhetorical question because, clearly, he's got a problem with me. I don't exactly know what it is, but whatever the case, he came out and I asked him what the issue was and he said, 'Yeah, I got a problem with you.' That was it. Everybody else was out there by that point in time. The game goes on. I don't want to spend any more mental effort thinking about Carlos Gomez."

They are 5 back with 6 to play. And the Rangers quit last night in about the 4th inning.

As long as we don't lose the next 2 (highly unlikely with Keuchel and Verlander going for us) they can't catch us.

Hell even if we manage to lose 1 of these and they make up 1 game they'll have to sweep us.

A) It's highly unlikely to happen
B) If it does that means they've expended a lot of resources to do it and that ain't a bad thing.

With them losing last night's win was big.

So the AL playoffs are basically set with NYY and MIN as the two wildcards. I assume a CLE/MIN match-up would get the day slot while a HOU/BOS matchup would get the night slot. Conversely, I'd also guess that a CLE/NYY matchup would get the night slot and we'd get the day slot. Trying to figure out whether I might need to be thinking about missing work if I was going to one of those first two games.

Me too.

Although I already notified work that I may be out all or half or both or one of Thurs/Fri. I'm sure they're wondering WTF I could be doing.

And both games wouldn't be day games would they?

Last year it looks like they were consistent with keeping one series early and one later. TOR/TEX went 4:30pm, 1:00pm on that Thurs, Fri. Whereas CLE/BOS went 8:00pm, 4:30pm on the Thurs, Fri.

Why haven't we seen that kinda speed from him before now? He should be doing that all the time!!

And Correa and Beltran and all the other guys who loaf down to 1B should take note.

Ironically I think Beltran beats out way more than his fair share of infield singles and FCs. Probably because it's him coming from the left side.

I have a feeling we may be losing Cora to a managerial opening this offseason.

Quote:

It seems likely the Mets will move on from Terry Collins, as we've also heard recently, but Mike Puma of the New York Post gives the clearest indication yet that the veteran skipper will probably depart. Per the report, ownership is not expected to override the baseball ops department, which seemingly intends to notify Collins of its decision shortly. The club's precise plans for the potential managerial vacancy remain unknown, though Puma says it's fairly likely that New York will look to bring in a new skipper that has previous "ties to the organization." He lists Robin Ventura, Alex Cora, Kevin Long, Bob Geren, and Chip Hale as potential candidates.

Maybe not for this job, but I don't think this is the last we hear of Alex as a candidate and think he could be heading out for a managerial gig.

If my math is correct Houston's magic numbers over Boston and Cleveland are as follows:

Boston (2)
Cleveland (9)

Inversely, Cleveland's magic number over Houston is (4).
