However we are only +1 in the run differential for September. (Thanks to the meltdown series in Oakland)

That's exactly right.

It's not a "collapse" from the first seed if the other team wins 27 of 28. You just tip your cap and move on.

Outside opinion, but I agree. Not much you can do when another team goes on a rip like that.

We're only 1.5 back of them. That's two bad games for them and two good ones for us. We could pass them in the span of 1 series.

I hope we can catch the Indians, not for home field advantage but because I'm not excited about facing Red Sox in first round with the way they've been pitching and with my horrible memories from what the Padres staff did to us in 98.

That being said, I can't see the Indians doing any worse than 6-4 in their last 10, which would mean we'd need to go 9-2 our last 11. Certainly not impossible but it's an uphill battle for sure.

You're probably right, but the dodgers just got swept by a team that has already lost 92 games. Indians are definitely capable of dropping more than a few.

In this streak, I think I heard Blummer say that the Indians had not given up 4 or more runs at all and only 3 runs a couple of times. That insane pitching.

I still believe nobody can stay that hot for that long.

If we win today, win 2 of 3 from the Angels and Rangers and then split the 4 games in Boston, we'll finish 100-62. Cleveland finishing 100-62 (and getting the top seed via the head to head tiebreaker) would mean they finished the season 31-6.

If we were the ones that hot, I would be scared to death that we peaked too soon.

Let's say that in that final four game series with Boston that at some point the games become meaningless (i.e Indians clinch home field, and we have home field over Boston). What does Hinch do then? Surely we don't throw the guys Boston will face in the upcoming playoff series. Is this when Tony Sipp finally gets a start?

We also have the opportunity to beat Boston so bad that the Yankees win the division

Which would negate us seeing them in consecutive series

I think he will.

He has shown signs of it. He's hit some absolute smokers lately that just haven't turned into hits and I've noticed he's going up the middle again.

There have been some indications that it's coming around.

I wouldn't take the foot of the gas for a second. Manage the bullpen, but everyone gets a couple days rest after the season.

Additionally as I said earlier, IF we make it to the WS home field is a head to head record with the NL team. That very well could be at team with a record close to ours. I want 4 out of 7 at home for that.

Looks like we dodged a bullet at the trade deadline with not being able to work out a deal for Zach Britton. He's having a stem cell injection in his knee today that will likely end his season.

I don't think it's rest but more along the lines of why give BOS a look at guys they haven't seen much that they'll see in the ALDS? Just seems like that gives them a pretty big advantage.

We've only had 3 with BOS so far this year so they don't have a lot ABs against many of our guys.

At least that's how I look at it.

And of course this is pending we can't improve our standing at all.

That's good. I've only seen parts of games lately so I haven't been able to pay close attention. If Springer/Altuve/Correa are both hitting well in October then good things will happen.

We could send our normal guys out and just throw the opposite of their tendencies. Have the Sox players on screwed up when they see something completely different in a few days.
