Winning makes everything better.
I agree... but spoiler alert, we will not lose all of the games left... we will win again. This team has too much talent to keep up the 1 damn bad streak of the year that most posters here want to accept as the new norm for this team.
I wish I could be a positive as you, it's just that we've been let down so many times that it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel in a funk like this.
Surely they'll start playing better but the goal is a championship and standing by at the deadline isn't going to help you achieve that goal. I get your argument about DK and LMJ's sub par pitching and how we won't win either way without them pitching to form but you still have to add pieces in a season like this with the expectation that your current aces will bounce back.
I posted an article a few weeks ago about trade deadline moves and WS winners, going back to 2000 every WS winner made a significant deal at the deadline. That should factor into some sabermetrics somewhere. The FO standing pact just tells me that maybe they feel like this isn't the year.
Were they the only team that made a big move in those years? No, they weren't. There are many teams every season that "win" the deadline that do not win **** in the playoffs.
Trade deadline moves are usually as much about trying to make sure you get into the playoffs than what you do in the playoffs.
I'm positive because in baseball... things are never usually as bad as they seem or they are never usually quite as good as they seem. The season is sooooo long with so many ebbs and flows that it's natural for a team that is even a great team to suffer a bad stretch or 2 or 3.
I also don't believe deadline deals improve your chance of a World Series as much as you think because of the nature of baseball. In the playoffs, the sample size per round is boiled down to a minuscule amount in comparison to the regular season and the fact that so many players contribute unlike a sport like basketball. The playoffs are heavily based on who gets the BABIP luck.
