Holy **** the lowest budget stupidest screen race ever here at globe life. What an embarrassment. It was 3 uncolored dots moving along a line.

You realize it's a throwback night, right?
It's throwback night every game that's played at that stadium... Hey come to sit outside in Texas in August and watch baseball just like the olden days!

I agree... but spoiler alert, we will not lose all of the games left... we will win again. This team has too much talent to keep up the 1 damn bad streak of the year that most posters here want to accept as the new norm for this team.

I wish I could be a positive as you, it's just that we've been let down so many times that it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel in a funk like this.
Surely they'll start playing better but the goal is a championship and standing by at the deadline isn't going to help you achieve that goal. I get your argument about DK and LMJ's sub par pitching and how we won't win either way without them pitching to form but you still have to add pieces in a season like this with the expectation that your current aces will bounce back.
I posted an article a few weeks ago about trade deadline moves and WS winners, going back to 2000 every WS winner made a significant deal at the deadline. That should factor into some sabermetrics somewhere. The FO standing pact just tells me that maybe they feel like this isn't the year.

Astro starting pitching since the all star game among the worst in baseball. Lousy division so Astros win the division - at the rate they are going by 5 or 6 games if they are lucky. At any rate whoever they play in the first round will make short work of them.

As far as not getting a reliever in a trade I don't get the big deal. A relief pitcher is waaaaay down the list of problems with this club.

But what if they DO feel like this team can win it all? I mean, they way this team was playing up the the trade deadline certainly should have inspired a lot of confidence. Right? What if they felt like this team can win it all and they had some slack in the line regarding deals?

I just dislike the narrative that doing nothing means you don't think your team can win it when in reality it should be a sign of utmost confidence.

And please don't think the above means I don't think there weren't holes to fill and wish they would have been able to do so.

Were they the only team that made a big move in those years? No, they weren't. There are many teams every season that "win" the deadline that do not win **** in the playoffs.

Trade deadline moves are usually as much about trying to make sure you get into the playoffs than what you do in the playoffs.

I'm positive because in baseball... things are never usually as bad as they seem or they are never usually quite as good as they seem. The season is sooooo long with so many ebbs and flows that it's natural for a team that is even a great team to suffer a bad stretch or 2 or 3.

I also don't believe deadline deals improve your chance of a World Series as much as you think because of the nature of baseball. In the playoffs, the sample size per round is boiled down to a minuscule amount in comparison to the regular season and the fact that so many players contribute unlike a sport like basketball. The playoffs are heavily based on who gets the BABIP luck.

They need to get healthy.

If the front office decides Verlander is a good fit and can get him with a minimal prospect price...

AND his contract will not hinder our ability to sign guys in the future to long term deals...

Then, I would be good with a Verlander deal.

Tomorrow might be the biggest game of the regular season. I believe 3 straight bad outings by DK will be a killer to the team. But...if he's on, I believe we'll get back on stride.

the August collapse continues unabated.

Astros fall to 2-9 in the month.

4-12 in their last 16 games.

Red Sox move to within 5 games of the loss column.

Angels-Mariners winner tonight will be 12 back

Largely unpredictable. Way too small of a sample size.

Hell I'll predict we lost in the World Series to the Cardinals.

Yeah, because baseball's such a predictable sport and the way a team is playing now is pretty much a guarantee of how they'll be playing in two months.

Dallas is pitching through discomfort at best, pain at worst. They may have been able to reduce the swelling/inflammation of the pinched nerve in his neck, but the problem won't go away until he has surgery to correct it. (Source: family member who works in orthopedics; said they have never seen someone with a pinched nerve in the neck that didn't require surgery).

I think if this was a mediocre, or worse, season, he would have had surgery already. But since the team has a solid chance to win it all, he's been trying to power through the pain/ discomfort. I'd be willing to bet he has surgery in the off-season.

I hope he finds a groove today and they beat those chodes in Arlington.

Worst collapse in MLB history would be such a Houston sports thing to do.

It won't happen.

The Astros would have to play .333 ball the rest of the way while the Angels would need to play .660 ball to even be at a tie at 89 wins. It will not happen.
