Look I preface this with wanting Springer to play...

BUT, he is coming off an injury that could be re-aggravated by running.

ALSO this is a day game following a night game.

As much as we fans want this streak to end, these games are nearly irrelevant at the moment to a fully 100% healthy Springer come playoffs.

Gotta make it to the playoffs first

Basically if the Astros win only 19 of their remaining 44 games ....they sit at 90 wins. If the angels won 30 of their remaining 44 games they would be at 90 wins.

I guess you can never say never, but losing the division lead would be the cllopase of all collapse's and we would have to continue this level of play until the end of the season for that to occur. (And the angels or mariners playing nearly .660 ball for a month and a half). The Astros could continue to slide but no team in the west is playing at that clip.

Right now though, making the playoffs is the least of my concern. If we lose the AL lead and limp into the playoffs and face off against the Indians this team is getting bounced early. If correa, Mcculers, DK, springer and even gattis/harris can't come back to their old forms once they are fully healthy...we might win a series against the Yankees or the 2nd wildcard team but i just don't see us navigating Boston or Cleveland in a 7 game series. Ain't happening without all those guys contributing at a high level

I'm positive because in baseball... things are never usually as bad as they seem or they are never usually quite as good as they seem. The season is sooooo long with so many ebbs and flows that it's natural for a team that is even a great team to suffer a bad stretch or 2 or 3.

Team A play .500 baseball at the All-star break. They play .690 after that. That's an a great year and a team favored to get to the WS.

Team B plays .690 ball before the break and .500 ( or worse) after the break. They are a huge disapoitnment and if they make the playoffs a one and done team.

These two scenarios could finish with identical win loss totals but one is a great season and one a failure.

Yes. We'd have to win 1 out of 3 the rest of the way and he angels would have to win 2 out of 3. That means we are already in the playoffs. Literally every decision we make should be being at 100% for the playoffs.

Yep....I'm starting to think that more than the front office, this collapse is squarely on hinch
that's what I'm thinking too...and he is a prime scapegoat candidate at the end of the season.

he's already presided over one big second half collapse (2015) and he's currently presiding over another one. He may not get a chance to preside over a third one

No. That's the losing streak talking.

Hinch isn't going anywhere.

There has to be a tremendous amount of pressure on DK today. It's time for him to put his money where his mouth is & deliver not just a good start but a great start.

I 100% agree with your last sentence, which is why I don't see why you aren't pissed about the lack of deadline moves. We all know this pitching staff won't cut it in the playoffs.

See, I happen to think that a healthy Keuchel and a healthy McCullers which can go 6 innings will cut it in the playoffs. It will push people back into their roles when they were successful this season. Also, the rotation and bullpen rotation will shorten up considerably. I don't think it is as bad as you believe if your two top line pitchers are healthy and in good form.

In that regard, if you could rely on those two being healthy, then I think a deadline move could have been helpful.

As you cannot rely on their health at the moment, a bullpen guy is only a marginal improvement and a starter still means you have a pitching staff that can't cut it.

Faced with these facts, I don't understand how you can still be pissed about the trade deadline.

Healthy isn't the only McCullers needs to be. His emotional 16 year old high school girl temper tantrums anytime something goes slightly off script is just a big of a piece.

His stuff is electric but he has a 2 cent head at times

It's amazing how out of whack this offense is.

Remember when they were scoring 7+ runs per game on the road all season? Now they've lost 7 straight road games

Well,

1) I disagree that having 2 guys going 6 innings is enough (hence the need for bullpen help)

2) You can't expect lance and Dallas to both be healthy and/or good at the same time, as it just hasn't happened much before. (Hence the need for starting pitching)

This line up has seen so much movement. Certainly doesn't help that Springer and Correa have been out. Those two were carrying quite a load.

That doesn't take into account Gurriel and Reddick both struggling, Gattis being out, McCann being horrid the last 2 months and Altuve slightly coming back down to earth. Every player in the lineup has regressed except Bregman and maybe Jose

Sorry, I meant a healthy Keuchel goes 7-8 innings and Lance goes 6.

The only thing is that at the trade deadline Keuchel was on the DL and McCullers had been pitching terrible and clearly something was wrong (I'm sure the team knew about it).

My only point in all of these discussions is I think the decision was harder than people are giving credit because your top line starters faced a pretty good amount of uncertainty.

It also probably doesn't help there's no consistency to the lineup. Hinch keeps juggling every one up and down the lineup.

I personally feel like they are getting jumped up and down the line up because Carlos and Springer were out. The top half of the line up was pretty consistent with Carlos in there.

I also think Carlos being out is a reason why Altuve has slightly come back to earth.
