Yep, and there simply wasn't that type of pitcher out there to go all in with.

Billy Wagner was an awful postseason pitcher.

he had a career 10.03 ERA in 14 playoff games.

gave up 21 hits and 13 earned runs in 11 innings pitched. He was terrible

I'm just some guy, but if I had a vote, I'd say that you all have exactly 24 hours from 3pm today to get the **** over it.

An All-Star CF returns to the lineup on Friday. His backup is someone who's been contributing and we're all excited about. An MVP candidate returns the following month. His backup should have made the All Star team as well and is about to slide into the Top 10 in a number of categories when he meets the AB requirements. Yuli. Reddick. McCann. Bregman. Jake from Rake Farm. Oh, and that little short guy who might be the best hitter in the game. One of the best offenses that any of us have ever seen. Have you forgotten the team with the most runs scored in the league? The 7+ runs scored per game on the road? The 19 put up on Toronto? The abuse of the entire Twins bullpen? Putting up 8 in the first two innings and ruining Derek Jeter night? George's walkoff in the 13th? Marwin's grand slam?

Mark it - Keuchel and McHugh return to form this week. Peacock and Fiers have helped this team more than we could have ever imagined. Morton is no slouch. With a little more rest, McCullers could very well be ready to go full blast by the time it counts. We just added an experienced lefty to the pen, so no more Sipp. We've got Devo. Kenneth. Martes. Musgrove. Strikeout machines. I expect them all to (continue to) step up when the time comes.

We're 32 games over .500, and the hard part of the regular season is over. We don't face another good team until the 22nd. Three games at home against the Nats and then right back to playing against scrubs. We've got six games TOTAL against good teams the rest of the regular season. Get some wins, get healthy, and get back in a groove for the postseason. It's taken multiple injuries to slow this machine. Let it play out.

The season has been damn fun to watch. It's still fun to watch. I wanted to make a splash today before the deadline just as badly as the rest of you did, but it didn't happen. Oh well. We didn't get worse today. A number of teams got better, but we didn't get worse. You guys are worrying about stuff that hasn't happened yet like a bunch of ****ing nancies. Let's cross that bridge in October.

Some of you will find it necessary to poke holes in my post, our lineup, our management, and any shred of a positive outlook. That's fine - go right ahead. Just don't expect to stand next to me at the parade when we win the whole damn thing. The thread has gone downhill for a few weeks now with all this trade deadline crap. Now we can just get back to watching baseball. You can hop off the train if you like, but the rest of us are moving on.

We've got another game in three hours. If you're that pissed off, don't watch. But all of you better shake that **** off before Twitter Tuesday. Crush City. Let's do this.

I never said he was a bad prospect. I just said I was not impressed with him, along with all the people who were sitting around me. He could be an amazing baseball player for all I know, but after watching him it was kind of sad.

After playing baseball your whole life and being told to respect the game and hustle all the time, it was rough seeing a guy who is talked about as the Astros saving grace not do the things you thought so highly of a baseball player to do

I never had any intention on being bashed for my post. Sorry
I do think it should be noted that Tucker just came off a DL stint for his back on July 25 which could impact his effort on routine outs and hustling on and off the field.

Also, we didn't grow up playing a 162-game season. I have no issue with guys not sprinting out every routine ground ball, and not being Johnny hustle in between innings. Very few professional players do.

In regards to today, if our lineup is healthy and clicking in the post-season then watch out. These guys are incredible when they are on.

Blue star here also. He may be under orders from the coaching staff to not overdo the sprinting.

If a player goes unclaimed for two days, he "passes through" waivers. His team then can trade him to any other team for the rest of the season, unless he has a no-trade clause, a limited no-trade provision or 10/5 rights (10 years in the Majors, five consecutive years with his current team).
So if there is a Verlander trade it won't be until the end of the week? Assuming he actually gets placed on waivers? Is this going to be Carmelo part 2?

Man, some of y'all are ****in insufferable. Did we get what we expected today? No. But we had the unquestionably best team in all of baseball before injuries hit. That gave us a ridiculous lead in the division and gave us the luxury to weather slumps like we're currently going through. Correa being out, Springer being out, Keuchel being out, LMJ being out, pitchers underperforming and we still have a ridiculous lead. We can cruise to the playoffs, let guys get healthy, and still are one of the top few teams in the league.

I assume some of the people here aren't familiar with baseball and became Astros fans once the wins started piling up this year. In some way, a slump will be a godsend so some of y'all will check out on this thread.

Edit: and with some MMQB, we added a lefty to the bullpen. We'll see if he's an upgrade over Sipp but he's almost certainly not a downgrade. That move also allowed us to find more time for Fisher. All hope is not lost.

As far as the Astros are concerned the pennant races mean dick, it's over. Assuming you mean helping to "win the pennant"...better relievers would be good, yes, but I'm already on record here as saying you can't be sure at all how much value and what kind of leverage a reliever will even help you out in for a span as short as 4 to 7 games.

We got eliminated in 2015 because a guy with a 1.90 ERA and another with a 1.99 ERA **** the bed in one game.

Preach.

Lunhow and Co. have built the best Astros team in my lifetime, and I'm not going to question them on theoretical trade deals that didn't happen. I'll trust their judgement over the talking heads on ESPN and random message board opinions. Furthermore, we've seen what happens when teams make big signings/trades with a "win now" mentality (late 2000's Astros).

I'm ready for some postseason baseball.

His analogy is spot on. He never said it wasn't important (and also read Luhnow's comments).

But it's like when one recruit of 25 flips and everyone on the football board loses their damn minds. That recruit could end up like Brandon Alexander, Justin manning, or any others from a long list.

Single players can be important, but people get way too caught up in it on days like this. I would've liked for us to sign another arm, but there's a good chance it doesn't change the outcome of this season.

Sipp isn't simple. They don't even have to DFA him. He just doesn't make the playoff roster. Worry about him and his salary in the offseason.

I've let it marinate for a couple of hours. From what I can tell, it doesn't look like anyone overpaid for any of the pitchers that got traded today, or even before the deadline. Teams that already had great pitching staffs got better, and teams that needed help got it.

Couple that with the probability that Lunhow knew that Lance was going to the DL, and that makes it very unacceptable that we did nothing today.

Either Luhnow really shat the bed today, or he isn't playing for this year. I'm not saying the latter is completely unreasonable if he actually has a plan to legitimately make a run for next year. I think that he knows who the competition is, coupled with our injury situation did not set up well for a run this year.

TLDR either 1) he blew it or 2) he doesn't think this is the year.
