You still have a chance to win a World Series this year, but if you don't then you turn your prospects into the best possible starting pitcher available for the next couple of seasons.

Who cares if we won't win the division by 18 games next year? This team is going to make the playoffs the next three seasons barring a complete collapse, and to me you want to have the optimal lineup and rotation for multiple playoff runs.

It's also not out of the realm of possibility that we win it all this year and still have Tucker, Whitley, Martes, Fisher, etc. for the foreseeable future. Frankly, adding Hand, Gray, Britton, etc. doesn't increase your odds all that much on paper.

Good point but I find myself clenching everytime we hand over to the BP lately. But we've got lots of pieces to work with already. Question is can you trust Martes, for example? If we acquire a SP, Peacock I assume moves to the BP which makes me feel better there too.

I've been wanting a reliever but I think you're right.

If you land Hand or Britton they're taking Sipps appearances. That's a HUGE upgrade.

Keuchel, Darvish, McCullers/McHugh/Morton in the Division series would be pretty intimidating.

Last week they were wanting top prospects but I think the price has fallen.

I'm not on the Darvish bandwagon unless he can be hard for pennies on the dollar.

I don't want to send a top prospect to Texas for freaking Darvish. I think that would be a worst case... Underachieving rental.

Looking at the numbers, i'd say a Darvish rental is almost like the Kazmir rental was.

If we're talking about going all in for this year, I'm surprised so many are anti-Darvish. I've got to think that no opponent is going to be pleased at seeing a playoff rotation of Keuchel, McCullers, Darvish and McHugh. With our lineup, that's filthy.

And as an ancillary point, I can't even imagine the Rangers' fans tears if Darvish helps lead us to the World Series - it would take a lot of the prospects going the other way to pan out to make that sting go away. I hated watching Roy pitch for the Rangers, but he was well past his prime and never much of a postseason factor that I can recall.

Darvish is worthless to the Rangers at 3pm today. May be able to steal him for cheap at the last seond.

Darvish is a definite take, but not for much.

How do yall feel about Lance Lynn? Also a rental, presumably cheaper. Slightly better numbers than Darvish, much more playoff experience.

If y'all don't mind me jumping in on the thread... what's your thoughts on a Darvish/Claudio package? Claudio has been an exceptional piece out of the pen, and y'all probably need another LH RP, right? That'd give a legit TORP and a solid bullpen piece for a WS run.

I think this is the important piece that many are ignoring. If Luhnow fails to make a trade for a starting pitcher today, it's probably because he thinks the same prospects could net him DeGrom, Archer or Stroman this winter.

He's very likely to do what's best for the three-year window and not just for this year.

he also might know something we do not, like Correa is not coming back this year, or Keuchal is still having issues, or Springer is worse off than we know, or someone else has an undisclosed nagging injury that is not going away.
