Great read on Peacock.

And how about this chart having 5 Astros on it.

That chart is pretty incredible. Is it safe to say at this point this organization knows how find and develop pitchers?

Luke gregerson is on that list of most unhittable pitchers?

He has a great slider when he is able to control it. As much as people hate Gregerson (and he has not been good this year), he has a long track record of success without an electric fastball. For someone coming out of the pen to have that kind of success with a below average velocity fastball, that means he must have great movement on his fastball and great offspeed pitches.

Other than the gopher ball he gave up to Odor, Gregerson has been good in June. We need him to start eating some more innings so lets hope it continues.

"Pitches" not "pitchers." Gregerson's Slider is dominant when it's on. And like Rosco said, he's been one of the most reliable relievers over a long period of time in the MLB.

We leave peacock in the rotation. He's earned his spot there and will slide back into the pen when Dallas gets back.

IIRC Gregerson himself stated he's been feeling "off" this year. He wasn't sure if it was a mechanical issue or just a mental thing but he's just trying to work through it.

Yeah, I find it awfully hard to move a guy who has been excellent while starting to the bullpen. I get the idea of value he brings going 2-3 innings from the bullpen, but I'm still not confident in our younger guys being consistent starters. It's a big risk you open up.

I like Peacock in that 2-3 inning role. That said, should he be at the back end of the bullpen come playoff time? Let him air it out for one inning.

I thought that's what we were talking about. When our rotation gets everyone off the DL.

Gotcha. Well then yeah keep Peacock. Keep Peacock in the rotation at least until we have everyone back.

I never watch west coast games because my alarm goes off at 4:00am.

Well I just found out we are off thursday and friday because of the storm. They are having to bring down a lot of our cranes out of precaution so shutting the project down the rest of the week.

Allowing me to now watch tonight and tomorrow.

I know...cool story bro. but this is a big deal because I havent watched yet this week.

I was thinking no way do we send Peacock back to the pen after his contributions starting, but after looking at his numbers, he was a solid starter, but great out of the pen. I say (agree?) that he could be more valuable from the pen than as starter. He'll lower the IP for guys like Dragon, Harris, Giles who we need to stay fresh for the postseason plus it isn't like we'd actually start him in the postseason so why not leave someone like Paulino or Martes in the rotation because they may actually be called on to start in Oct if they keep developing.

Here's a fun fact: Carlos freakin Beltran has the lowest BA and WAR out of all the every day starters (not counting Aoki).

Before the season started, if I told you that after 70+ games that Beltran would basically be our least effective batter, what would you have thought? Me, I would have thought we were fooooked!

As good as we have been, with the emergence of Fisher, Edwin Encarnacion would have been a nice add to this team instead of Beltran. He certainly would have allowed for more flexibility in using Bregman as trade bait. I'm assuming the club didn't want to handicap themselves with a 3 year deal, but Encarnacion was a lot less risky than Beltran. EE would be destroying the Crawford Boxes. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

I really do think Beltran's biggest contribution is in the locker room.

This. I think the club knew they were taking a hit production wise with Carlos over EE but they wanted Carlos in the clubhouse.

A thousand blue stars. I wouldn't do anything differently regarding Beltran and EE. Carlos is responsible for some of the improvement in other people's BA/OPS/WAR. Our guys are learning how to handle their business every day. I'm sure they would enjoy having EE's bat in the lineup, but I guarantee they respect Beltran more.

So once everyone gets healthy, what does the active roster look like? Lets assume a perfect world where everyone is healthy at once.

Starters:
Keuchel
McCullers
Morton
McHugh
Musgrove
Fiers

Relief:
Giles
Harris
Devenski
Gregerson
Peacock
Sipp
Feliz

To AAA:
Paulino
Martes
Hoyt
Diaz

I think in this scenario we can do some combination of 6 man rotation and letting Musgrove or Fiers throw some relief.

If we make a trade for a starting pitcher, what would you do to make a roster spot?
PETE2019

We currently have 42 on the 40 man roster with Gustave and McHugh on 60 day DL. I would bet Diaz gets DFA'd and by the time Gustave returns I'll bet someone will have been traded
coastalAg

I am thinking more in terms of the 25 man roster. With everyone healthy, there isnt an obvious move to be made to clear room for another pitcher should we make a trade. Maybe Musgrove gets sent down if he cant get it together.

I may be in the minority but I would find a way to keep Martes here (in the rotation and not the pen). I don't think he will get anything more out of AAA and think that him being around guys like Dallas and Lance and especially working with Strom will benefit him more. Seemed like he was stuck in a bit of a rut in AAA and things weren't clicking. He's looked better here than he has all year there.

Granted this is all assuming he isn't dealt. If that happens then it's obviously not an issue and a spot opens up.

I am at the point now where, assuming health will be OK moving forward, not trading for one of the starting pitchers discussed, I am not sure you are getting back what you truly need. I would work to truly solidify the bullpen, even if it means getting a true dominant closer.

I also agree with Ag_07, I want to keep Martes, if possible.
3B Paul 97

I would expect Musgrove to get sent to AAA to keep working as a starter to keep Hoyt in the pen with the big club.
