Get off twitter, that would be my tip.

Speaking of luck above, one of the fastest and easiest ways to check for that in pitchers is the "E-F" column on fangraphs. It's under the "advanced" tab. It's simply ERA minus FIP.

Here's each team's bullpen.

Now... digging into this more... Here's why...

Astros lead the league in bullpen Ks by a pretty hefty margin. They are elite in this category...

They are above average when it comes to walks...

It's homers allowed that are not so good for the bullpen:

To dig into the homer issue more...
The Astros are 2nd in Soft Contact%, but 25th in Hard contact%.

They are 6th in Line Drive% and 23rd in HR/FB rate.

The 23rd in HR/FB rate seems like a stat that should regress in a good way for the Astros, but the hard contact% says that it may not as much as we'd like.

This is the best route. Ended up getting rid of all of them.

it probably explains the gap between xFIP and ERA, considering your BABIP is almost exactly 300.

It does explain the gap... the question is how much that will or or will not regress.

this is not to be meant as sarcasm or rude toward you but...

are people really expecting Mchugh to contribute to this team this year? I have had that written off for quite some time now..

I came here to eat crow for my post above on 7/10/2017.

Interesting read about the fanbases of the Astros, Nats, and Dodgers

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/are-nationals-ready-for-october-who-cares-enjoy-the-daily-drama-they-are-now/2017/08/03/1cbf98ec-77bb-11e7-9eac-d56bd5568db8_story.html?utm_term=.e9697f5b4c23

How do you cope with that? Or, perhaps more pointedly, how warped is the state of your sports mental health if you can't enjoy the Nats to the fullest now, every minute, for as long as their season lasts?

The same situation faces fans of the Dodgers, who have their best team since (at least) the 1988 champs, and the Astros, who clearly have their best team ever. Nats fans wring their hands over Scherzer and Strasburg, while Astros followers fret about aces Lance McCullers Jr., who had a 9.64 ERA in July, and Dallas Keuchel, just back from the disabled list and battling to find his form.

I'll tell you how warped it is... very, thanks to being a Houston and A&M sports fan all my life.

As a side note, I'm pretty sure all of the Astros games are "dynamically priced" I don't think it's a switch they flip on for certain games. Midweek games are cheaper than weekend games, weekend games against better teams are more expensive than against crap teams, etc.

Here's the Altuve/Springer/Correa-less line up for tonight

Hinch has earned the robot label for legitimate reasons...like tonight's lineup.

can't sit Altuve until Springer comes back.

fans are not going to be happy when they walk in the park and see that lineup

But even Bo Porter isn't dumb enough to sit Altuve on the road.

I've read many opinions that they think the stars will walk b/c the FO won't want to pay them. They say refusal to deal prospects is evidence of that philosophy. Others think they don't want to sell prospects so we can have cheap, young talent to complement the high prices stars.

If the Astros go after Verlander or not will tell us a lot about the Astros organization. There is a good chance he can be had for less cost in prospects if the Astros are willing to eat that albatross of a contract. There is also a good chance he can be had for better prospects and the Tigers eat a bunch of the contract.

This might tell us a lot about the FO moving forward . . . or I'm just a rambling idiot.
Buck Compton
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Or it won't tell us anything except that we don't think Verlander is worth that amount of money over the next few years.

Getting Verlander or not has no bearing on if we pay Altuve.

I agree he's not worth it the next two seasons. But he can help this team this year and be off the books in time. They FO has gotten by incredibly cheap trying to build the team and have done a great job. If they value prospects too much to trade them they can get him for some lotto tickets but it'll cost cash. Will have to open up the wallets at some point.

With Lance and Dallas struggling this team could use rotation help. And it could move Peacock to the pen to help a struggling bullpen.
