I probably did too. Jake has been bad offensively before this year. Not just a little bad, but terrible. wRC+ of 58 last year. Now it was clear by midseason the Gomez had to go, but Jake was not the answer.

you cant teach pop. Its natural. the ball just flies off his bat in a special way. More so than any other Astro and large majority of the league.
Kinda reminds me of Berkman in terms of the pop off his bat (from the left side)...Biggio always said Lance had "crazy pop" and Jake reminds me of that as well.

Probably the only similarity between the two I can think of at the moment...OK both are a little goofy (Berkman more so...by a pretty wide margin actually).

Yeah up until mid season when it was obvious Gomez needed to leave I we OK with him playing over Jake.

Yes he was better defensively but Gomez at least had the potential to hit some HRs and be a run producer. Up until now Jake has been a liability at the plate his entire career.

Maybe I was just enamored because of the way Jake started 2015 but I've always thought he was a better hitter than what last year showed. And his defense of course speaks for itself.

Walk him and enjoy the show.

I just think he's a spark plug for this team. When we brought on Gomez that spark seemed to disappear a little.

Yeah apparently their SBNation folks say they need outfielders. Who knows how accurate that is though

I mean, have you seen Khris Davis' arm? He makes Deshields look like the kid from Rookie of the Year.

Stros run 1st to 3rd when the ball is hit to him in LF all the time and have yet to get thrown out.

Not sure where I read it (maybe it was here?) but I saw an article that the Astros are protecting Jake from starting against high velocity pitchers. Seems like the plan is working.

Martes v Gray tonight

Should be a good matchup. Also interesting in that each of these guys could very well be pitching for the opponent by the end of the year.

I wonder if that's ever happened where two pitchers match up against each other twice but each on the opposite team.
