I've always found that odd; the dude is on the verge of being a starting pitcher; but he can't go 2-3 innings on a day or two of rest?DVC2010 said:
I just caught up on all the posts since the game started last night and wanted to address a few comments, but I'm not going to go find them now.
After Sunday's win, Hinch said that he prefers not to use Devo for so long precisely because he's unavailable for a few days. Last night we got two solid innings including the scariest part of the lineup in a close game. That's exactly how I want to see him used.
Which brings me to my next point: every team wants Andrew Miller. We don't need Andrew Miller; we have Chris Devenski. That's why he should not be in the rotation.
I think it's about total number of pitches along with total number of high stress pitches, not necessarily total innings. A 26 pitch outing is like a regular 1-inning outing to Devenski I'm sure. He threw 60 pitches in both 4 inning outings. That's 1/2 to 2/3 of a start for a guy who's not starting.Goofus And Galante said:I've always found that odd; the dude is on the verge of being a starting pitcher; but he can't go 2-3 innings on a day or two of rest?DVC2010 said:

Here's my Devo chart:
If IP < 2 = Devo available next game
If IP 2 < 3 = Devo available after one day rest
If IP 3 < 5 = Devo available after 3 days rest
If close game in September and you need to shut down the other team = Devo no matter what.

How about some TOFA instead of complaining about a solid win

He may be a starter one day, but his current role is perfect for this team.

And it shouldn't be Fiers forever. Way too many options for that 5th spot in the near future.Ag_07 said:Buck Compton said:

This.
I feel like he's most valuable where he is now than anywhere else.
Think of it this way...Would you want Fiers getting his innings and seeing Devo once every 5 days?

No doubt. And I can't wait
I think the day Fiers gets axed from the roster should be a day of celebration and debauchery. I'm not a Mike Fiers fan at all.

Yesterday Devi came in the game up 2-0
We increase the lead while he is pitching, making it harder for the Killer Gs to blow it

Go read the Nate Silver post. TL;DR version: the Astros are getting a lot more value out of Devo in middle relief than they would in a designated set-up or closer role.

Hahahaha, is that Gustave, Giles and Gregerson?

Think of it this way...Would you want Fiers getting his innings and seeing Devo once every 5 days?
- McHugh gets healthy
- Frances Martes gets ready
- David Paulino gets healthy/ready
- Brady Rodgers is off to a hot start in AAA
- Trade for a respectable #4/#5 pitcher
But all of those other scenarios leave Devo in the pen where he's been such a huge weapon.
Because it wouldn't cost much in prospects. I really want to hang onto Kyle Tucker and some of the others.shano0603 said:irish pete ag06 said:And it shouldn't be Fiers forever. Way too many options for that 5th spot in the near future.Ag_07 said:Buck Compton said:

Huh? Why would we trade for a 4/5 guy? That's dumb
We'll always have his no-hitter though.Ag_07 said:

Yep. Throw a Low A Lottery ticket to the Braves to get Bartolo Colon. Slot him in at #4 and let Musgrove get skipped a couple of times to limit his innings a little.Ag_07 said:shano0603 said:irish pete ag06 said:And it shouldn't be Fiers forever. I could see that happening.
If our 1-3 is stout and they want to improve the rotation without giving up the big prospects it'll take to get a 1/2 guy then an improvement in the 4/5 for giving up very little could be an option.
