If he will take half, do we take a chance on him?

I don't want him. Not that I think he's a bad pitcher, because he is really good, but I'm just tired of Yu.

Meh, if the Rangers can get him for 5/125, you do it all day everyday.

Yeah, even if you call him a #2 type pitcher, those guys get paid well too. I don't study the market values that much, but he's getting $20+ per year from somebody.

And that team will be overpaying for a pitcher who may have prettt much lost the WS this year.

Again, teams aren't paying Darvish (or any player for that matter) for what they may/may not do in the world series (or playoffs). Teams pay (over pay) for what they can get out of guys in the regular season.

3 WAR guy that has been mostly useless in the postseason and will turn 32 midseason next year.

He's going to get paid, but if I'm the club thay signs up, I wouldn't feel real good about it.

Darvish was the Dodger's #3 SP.

He went 2GS, 3.1 IP, 8 ER for a 23.22 ERA.

Verlander is owed $28M for the next 2 years, with Detroit paying $8M each year.

IMO, Darvish cost him years, as well as $$ per. No way he gets 5 yrs. I wouldn't go 4 yrs.

3yrs/$50M would be my limit.

Yes, teams would want him for the 30GS. But his TJ surgery and post-season play would be huge red flags.

If you pay $20M for a SP... you expect to be in the playoffs.

He's been a pro here in America for 6 years and he's had one year where he was elite from start to finish.

He'll get paid but teams will think a little more before they get into a bidding war for this guy than that would some other guys. Simply more risk with Darvish.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting about Darvish by "expect to be in the playoffs" but Darvish is more than adequate to play an important role on a playoff team. He's not Kershaw, old Verlander, etc. but he's still a very good pitcher.

He will get way more than 3 years, $50 million.

3 years, $50 million is what 37 year old Rich Hill got after 2/3rds of a season as an admittedly excellent starting pitcher...or previously, what Scott Kazmir got after many years as a mediocre starter.

I think he'll get $100+ mill. But I just have a feeling that the team that gives it to him will end up wishing it had been 3/$50.

Had the Dodgers manufactured runs beginning in the 1st, they would probably only be down a run or two. Seems like they are just waiting for the long ball instead of chipping away.

My point was, people won't pay him (or anything else) $20M just for a regular season, without any real expectation for him to perform in the playoffs.

Sure they will. Heck, Clayton Kershaw makes $35 million a year without any track record of excellent postseason play.

But even if a team is much worried about the playoffs, he'll get the benefit of the doubt given his talent and that he's had several excellent post season games.

So Yu goes 1.2 giving up 3 hits while the rest of the team has gone 6.1 and given up 2. Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who watched him since he arrived though. Basically we helped Houston win the WS so you're welcome.

They were finally ballsy enough to make the trade for Verlander and it paid off. Scary thing is they've got some years of being good too and we're floundering around between competing now and rebuilding for a few years from now. All this win did was turn the heat up on JD.

RIGHT... Kershaw @ 26 signs a $35M/per contract in 2014. All he had done was 2 Cy Youngs and a 2nd place finish. Ends up in 2014 getting another Cy Young and MVP. 4.25 ERA through 2013 playoffs.

Totally the same.

No. They're not the same. That's not the point at all.

The point is you just named off a bunch of regular season accolades as to why a pitcher is paid what he's paid before you got to a "meh" 4.25 playoff ERA.

Free agents don't really get docked because of playoff performances.
