And their consensus is that he should shut up. That literally only became an issue at all because Reid Ryan decided to drag the Rangers through the mud like an asshat. All he had to do was say no and move on to whatever else worked, but nope, got to make sure he goes at the Rangers in all likelihood because his dad hates Jon Daniels. I don't believe for a second his motives weren't personal.
Yeah, that was really my biggest issue in the entire ordeal. I understood both sides. Neither side was being unreasonable, and both could have handled it better. But Ryan running to cry to the media was highly unprofessional, especially given the heightened stress and emotions in Houston.

Yup, and a perfect example of how members of the media can skew a story anyway they want it.

Looks like the consensus among GMs and national baseball writers is that the Rangers handled things fine and Reid Ryan acted unprofessionally.

But that doesn't make for a good headline.

Astros fans are out in full force on the Rosenthal tweet. Basically the talking point is "Ken, you're an idiot. These are completely different scenarios!"

How have they determined they're different? They're the same damned thing.

The lines I'm seeing are: 1) Rays aren't going to the playoffs, or 2) Tampa or NY, it's still essentially a home game for the Yankees, or 3) Rangers/Astros are in the same state so playing in Arlington would be easier.

None of which has any relevance to the actual issue of "swapping", especially considering the Rangers offered to play in Arlington. In reality, the only difference is that the Rays front office isn't displaying how unprofessional they are by running to the media, probably because they realize there are bigger things going on right now than scheduling a game.

Sounds to me like what they mean is "It's not our team so we don't give a s*** therefor it's different."

And Tampa is only 3.5 back -- still very much alive.

I remember them citing "competitive advantage" impacting the WC race during their fit. The Yankees getting 3 extra home games is far more advantageous to them than it would be for the Rangers. Rangers were facing uphill battle regardless. Those 3 extra games at home will be nice as the Yanks cling to a WC spot.

Looks like the talking points have made it to the Astros fans on this board. Trash talking thread just ticked off excuse #2 from above:

"Any game between the Yankees and the Rays is a home game for New York...have you ever watched a Red Sox or Yankee game in Tampa? If you close your eyes you would never know it's a home game for the Rays."

I lost the biggest Rangers fan I've ever known today. My grandma was an absolute diehard fan and one of the biggest reasons I'm such a fan. When I was a kid I would send her letters with a diagram of the BPiA and the starting lineup written in at their positions. It's gonna be tough watching games without her texting updates or a HWC at the end of the game.

AP, I owe you a huge thank you. I reached out a few months back when she was diagnosed with cancer and you put me in touch with someone in the organization who had Elvis and Beltre sign cards for her and sent a little gift package. That meant the world to her and cheered her up at a time when she really needed it.

Share the games this weekend with someone you love. One of the best things about baseball is the way it's passed down from one generation to the next. Cherish that and don't take those moments for granted.

Odor with another terrible defensive play that bites the Rangers in the ass. Rough year for him, but he's not playing with his head in the game a lot either.

Odor can't hit, can't play defense, and plays every day.

Why do you have the infield in with bases loaded in the 2nd inning?

Is this a win or go home game? Good grief Bannister is a dumbass.

God that is an annoying inning. I felt like every hit they got was about a few feet away from being an out. I'm sure we'll go 1-2-3 here now, because of course

I'm not TOO concerned with Odor just yet. He got off to a terrible start, and just isn't/wasn't mature enough to handle said start as a 23yr old, especially after coming off the extension. I think he'll bounce back and be much better next year.

Yeah, I don't doubt he can be a good player. But we need to win games right now and he's literally not contributing anything on either side of the ball.

Methinks Chirinos is ready to be our every day catcher going forward.

Down East
Game 1: W 4-1 over Myrtle Beach.
Jonathan Hernandez: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO

Game 2: W 2-1 over Myrtle Beach.
Brett Martin: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO
Emerson Martinez: 2.0 IP, 0 ER
Scott Williams: 2.0 IP, 0 ER

Because of the Hurricane, the Carolina League shortened the LDS from 5 games to 3 games. Subequent to that, they decided to cancel the LCS, and naming Co-Champions. Both LDS winners will share the league Championship. As a result, Down East is Co-Champions.

Great pitching in the 2 playoff games. Future is bright.

Both Hernandez (21) and Martin (22) are Rule V eligible after the season. I don't think either is a risk.

Member 2 years ago we all were ready to ride Elvis out of town? Now look at him. Any chance Odor can do the same? He's gotta stop trying to hit it out of the park every time.

I was a huge Cubs fan in the early 90s with Maddux, Sandberg, Grace, Dunston, Dawson, etc. Every day on WGN in the afternoons after school with Harry Caray and Steve Stone. I remember Joe Girardi as being a big part of those teams, but holy hell his offensive numbers were terrible (after looking them up a few minutes ago). For someone that played as long as he did, he has to be one of the most unproductive players in the history of the game.
