But congrats to them for finally making an "all in" kind of trade. The front office finally pulled the trigger. I think Verlander is good but I also think his best baseball is probably behind him at 34. He's the kind of pitcher they needed to make a push. Would have rather had Gray or Darvish with a chance to sign him to an extension, personally. Dodgers are still the best team in baseball IMO.

Verlander appears to have fixed whatever ailed him. He has a 2.41 ERA in 10 GS since the ASB.

The Astros gave up quite a bit, but if they have Verlander for $22M for '18 & '19... that is a great addition.

One of the problems the Astros have had is learning how to win and how to win late in the season. Verlander remedies that. You now have veteran leadership that has "done it" He'll make the other components (like Cliff Lee) in the rotation better.

Also, Houston needed something. I think Reid Ryan tried to give the team a spark with his Rangers comments, and it failed. They needed something to dampen decision to play in Tampa and lack of trade deadline deals.

OH... and with what Anaheim did, I think they realized they needed to make a move.

I don't think there is a spot for Calhoun in the lineup this year. Also, he doesn't need to be added to the 40 this offseason unless we bring him up.

I would like to see Guzman get some at bats. He has earned it and, without Beltre playing, there should be an opportunity to platoon Guzman w/ Nap @ 1st.

That will them an idea of Beltre's injury. Couple the injury with Houston adding Verlander (and Correa) and Anaheim adding Upton, and the little hope you had is diminished.

Roll out some players to audition for off season trade, contributions for 2018 and Rule V protection.

We have 4 SPs who will likely need to be added. So demo Profar, Rua, and such for trade value. Determine if guys like Robinson (CF), DD (CF) and Guzman (1B) are options or holes.

Really excited to see Guzman get some time at 1B. Hope they give him a proper audition and sit Napoli. At this point, the chances of a WC are essentially zero. No reason to keep running Nap out there.

Yeah, I think the 40 is the main issue. Ideally, I would like to see Gallo at 3B, Guzman at 1B, and Calhoun at DH every day. Let Gomez, DD, and Choo swap in and out of the lineup daily, and basically don't play Napoli at all. But I don't suppose we'll see any of that until we completely fall out of the playoff race (and not at all on Calhoun since it's not yet needed or worth it to add him to the 40).
