Napoli is completely lost. No reason, at this point, he should be playing everyday. Put Gallo at first, and Deshields in left.

Don't look now but Perez has been pretty damn good for about a month now. Nice to see him possibly turning a corner....maybe.
Always said he was a 1A or 2

Season H2H is sitting at 8-6 Astros with 5 games left. Rangers need to win 4 of 5 to retain the Boot.

On Martin Perez:

Season:

ERA - 4.89
FIP - 4.51
xFIP - 4.66

BABIP - .332
GB% - 47.6
K-BB% - 6.7
LOB% - 70.2

August:

ERA - 4.19
FIP - 4.63
xFIP - 4.57

BABIP - .280
GB% - 53.5
K-BB% - 7.5
LOB% - 75.0

So in August we have GB% up quite a bit which explains some of the severe outlier in BABIP.(he's a career .308 BABIP guy) ERA is better but FIP and xFIP aren't much different.

Without looking at pitch movement and strike zone maps, etc, I'd say Martin Perez has been more lucky than better, or good, in August. Lets see how he finishes out the rest of the year.

Upcoming Schedules:

Twins (WC): v CWS (W/Th), v KC (F/Sa/Su)
LAAA (-1.0): v A's (W), Off(Th), @ Tex (F/Sa/Su)
O's (-1.5): v M's (W), v BJs (Th/F/Sa/Su)
M's (-3.0): @ O's (W), Off (Th) v A's (F/Sa/Su)
Rangers (-3.0): v Astros in Tampa (W/Th), v LAAA (F/Sa/Su)
KC (-3.0): v Rays (W), Off (Th), @ Twins (F/Sa/Su)

Nut cutting time.

We need a sweep of the Astros, and at least 2-1 against the Halos.

Petition started to force Rangers to remove Texas flag from jerseys

Quote:

The petition states: "With everything going on in Texas and the spirit of unity, how can a team represent the great State of Texas by wearing the state flag, when they do not share in our state's helping spirit? The Texas Rangers do not represent the State of Texas and therefore should not be allowed to wear our state's flag."

Houston is the little brother that won't stop whining and crying.

Okay, let's talk about the helping spirit of the state. The proceeds from this series are all going to Harvey relief, as they should. That's great, but it is SUBSTANTIALLY less money than they would have gotten had they hosted it in Arlington. Now they city of Houston is deprived of that extra money, instead having to rely on proceeds from a series in Florida. That decision doesn't seem too in line with the helping spirit of the state of Texas, does it? And that's a decision straight from the Houston front office.

This decision was made with input from both sides. It was the only thing both teams could agree to.

I don't get why Rangers fans are upset about playing at the trop. These were going to be road games anyway.

I haven't heard a single Rangers fan be upset about playing in TB.
It's the handwringing by Astros fans and Reid Ryan about Rangers not wanting to switch the series.

I have no problem playing at The Trop. We swept the Rays last trip there.

The issue most Rangers fans have is Reid Ryan was trying to score "fan points" trying to suggest the Rangers Organization was trying to take advantage of Houston. He has been terrible for the Astros and with Luhnow, if they don't win the WS the Astros fan backlash will be huge.

What Reid did was the equivalent of trying to drill a fastball in the earhole of the 1st batter of a series. Trying to send a message and rattle the other team. It was petty and unnecessary.

I'm only repeating what has been said. Zero issue playing wherever the Astros wanted to play. They had the first say in this series.

Problem is rangers organization was made out like the bad guy here. And that's bullsh

I feel like it should be noted that the Astros' decision isn't only affecting the city of Houston but lots of cities, towns, and communities along the Texas gulf coast.

Even though they already donated 1 million, I'd still like to see us do some sort of charity thing with our series in September too

99 percent sure We fixed the keg was joking with his reply about knocking them out of first.

There really is something deep down about Astros fans. They have been so far ahead this season that I literally haven't checked the division standings since about the first month of the season. But of course they bristle at the idea of them getting kicked out of first place, which is not happening barring some kind of insane slump

Dang, you figured me out.....stupid emoticon must have given me away.

1) The likelihood of us winning 4 of the next 5 is slim 2) The likelihood of them losing first place is slimmer. One week ago, I wouldn't have wasted the time to type it out, but that was before the crap being posted over the last 48 hours.

I got a good laugh reading the Astros thread about last nights game. The Astros are doing fine in the standings, but the Astros fans were calling players gutless, asking for DFA's, saying the team didn't care, saying the pitcher needed to be cut.

Such a crazy response when you have the division wrapped up and a big lead for home field.

Yep, the talk of how rough things are for their players and their city is made in the same breath where they call said players gutless and they clamor to get rid of them.

And Jon Daniels is the cruel one.

They realize they could have been playing in Texas near their families right????? or even asked for the games to be cancelled, but baseball "fairness" was all the houston ballclub cared about.

It's exactly like reading football threads in November. These are the same people who declare us national champions in October and then want everyone fired by the end of November. These same stros fans spent the first half of the season talking about setting the single season win record and winning CONSECUTIVE World Series. Now that they've played sub-.500 ball for a month and a half they want everyone fired or publicly shamed.

Then we can buy each on their 40 and their FO a pair of leather Justin Ropers. You know, instead of the "Silver" boot.

Regarding Stanton, I don't think it's completely unreasonable that they would be willing to give him up for almost nothing if the accepting team was willing to pick up 100% of the contract. After this season, he has 10 years and $295 million remaining and he's been pretty injury prone. He will be 38 when that contract ends. You would likely be looking at him being 34, starting to break down, moving to DH, and still being owed $120MM. Now if the Marlins pick up a significant percentage of that contract, they will be able to demand a massive package.

Proximity to their family is one of the biggest points I've been making. That is why this will all blow up in Reid Ryan's face.

All Reid Ryan got was to spite JD and the Rangers.

His players and coaches could have been in Dallas, where many affected by Harvey have fled. The could have spent several days with their families. After the game, they could walk out of the stadium and drive home together. Instead, they will fly a couple hours from Tampa.

If Reid wanted to help his players, he could have focused on trying to get the Rangers to agree to a DH to free up a day. Since they both had off Monday, a DH wouldn't have been a big deal either in Arlington or Tampa.

Also, looks like the Astros will play in Houston for the NYM series. They will move Fri to be a DH on Sat. See. Reason.

From '21 (age 31) through '26 (36) Stanton is owed either $29M and $32M.

His 1st full year ('11) he played 150 Games.

Since then, he has had GP of 123 ('12, Age 22), 116, 145, 74, and 119. This year is 129, so far.

Some comparison of Pujols:
'11 (31, SL): 147 GP, .258, 17 HR - ($14.5M)
'12 (32, LAAA): 154 GP, .285, 30 HR - ($12M)
Highest BA since: .272
Most HRs since: 40 (17, 28, 40, 31, 19)
Paid: $16M, $23M, $24M, $25M, $26M.

Remaining: $27M, $28M, $29M, $30M (age 41)

Even at 27, Stanton's salary is going to sink some teams.

How much of that contract would Miami have to eat for a Mazara/Stanton trade to become acceptable? Even if the Marlins picked up $100MM, that's still a $20MM/year contract for 10 years that you would owe while Mazara is still inexpensive for several years.

Mazara is controlled for the next 4 years.

JD has historically picked 3-4 years and added 2-3. In the case of Perez, it included additional help in getting Martin's family out of Vz. In the case of Odor, it was for a couple horses. Andrus got Opt-Outs.

I don't know that I'd like Stanton that long. Regardless of the buyout.

You would do it at a certain level. If the Marlins picked up $280MM of that, you're looking at a 10 year, $1.5MM/year contract that you could easily buy out whenever he becomes useless. Obviously the Marlins would never do that, but I'm just illustrating that there is a level of buyout that makes the deal enticing. I'll stop talking now- sorry for the derail with never-gonna-happen hypotheticals.
