He was a guy JD mentioned in the off-season that he wanted to see more of. He seemed to allude to Drew being at 1st base. This was between the time Napoli was rumored to be coming, then rumored to not be, then signed.

JD was pretty high on him. I think he is one of those guys like Zobrist, who is pretty good in a number of areas and you just don't know how he fits, until he fits.

I stand by my opinions:

Mark Holtz was awesome.

I have and still enjoy Eric Nadel.

Matt Hicks does a pretty good job.

Raymond is terrible and while he may be a smart person and intellectual, he contributes nothing in terms of insight. It is as if he shows up right before the game and thinks he just has to fill the air with whatever comes to mind. Stream of consciousness. He seems very lacking in what is going on. The reason he didn't gel with Grieve and/or Busby is because Grieve/Busby would correct him on some of the most basics of baseball. It was embarrassing for me to hear Raymond say something stupid, only to have Busby correct him, "No, actually it is like this."

Grieve, while not very sexy or "colorful" did provide insight into baseball interworkings and cookies. While I didn't think he was great, he was at least knowledgeable and prepared.

Busby has been the better of the crew. He always seemed to share something every broadcast that I would consider advanced knowledge of baseball, that I did not know... or had forgotten. Over the years, Busby has made me a more knowledgeable fan, which is more than I can say about Raymond.

CJ has seemed ok. In my limited time this season (I've actually watched 3 whole games in the past week). The problem I've noticed here is... CJ appears to be doing the Color while Raymond is doing the play-by-play... however, CJ is doing 80% of the talking, while Raymond speaks much less than he would do with Busby and Grieve. That adds to my opinion above. Raymond just doesn't seem to offer that much. When you allow the Color guy to own the broadcast, you clearly aren't very good. And it gives the indication that even CJ (in his limited experience with the Rangers broadcast) doesn't think Raymond can carry the broadcast.

Watch the game with that in mind. If you like Raymond more this year, it isn't because he is better, it is because he has a diminished role in the broadcast.

Raymond won't be with the Rangers next year.

I was never a fan of Josh Lewin and am not upset he is gone. He was entertaining and what we needed during his time in the booth. The Rangers were terrible and pop culture conversations, along with Cookie Talk were a pleasant distraction from the poor baseball being played. Josh is an entertainer, but wasn't a Sports Broadcaster. That may have changed, but I was never impressed. Witty, full of quips, but not a baseball guy, IMO. Maybe football or basketball. Or dodgeball.

You forgot to mention John Rhadigan. The worst announcer I've ever heard in my life. Barnett sucked too.

Lewin and Holtz are pretty much the only ranger guys that I've enjoyed listening too. Anyway, I have the MLB at bat app and always watch the game on my iPad while listening to the other teams crew. I've heard some pretty good broadcast teams. The only downside is I have to wait 1 hour and a half after the game is over to watch.

They wanted to make sure he didn't set the single season strike out record.

saw an update from one of the beat writers that he had a hamstring strain. Hopefully not too serious. That inside the parker might have been the culprit? Had a busy weekend so not positive when he actually did it.

I actually went to school with Barnett's kids. Really nice family, but HUGE horn fans and they hate all things Aggie. His son is a pretty good college football writer, The Ticket mentions him every now and then
