Chirinos has the frame and experience to do something at first, so I might be inclined to have him there over Lucroy, as someone stated already.

Chirinos will come back to earth eventually but I think you've got to play your hot hands and try to keep the Win-Loss record somewhat manageable while you try to figure out the longer term problems.

Very interesting time for Rangers. I still feel like this team is good and if the numbers even out, they will win a lot of games. Fascinating time for the front office as they have to be building two plans. If not in contention and not going to resign Yu, then there needs to be some serious movement. The farm could be reloaded in the matter of a few weeks with as many chips as they have.

Always exciting at deadline to be a buyer, but history has showed that it rarely works out. Most recently, Cueto in 2014.

Jake Thompson still has promise

Eickhoff who it seems Texas undervalued has made 48 starts with a 3.64 ERA
Hamels 47 starts with only marginally better numbers

Who would I have rather had on the mound in playoffs ? Well Hamels obviously, even though it didn't work out last year. It just seems like a lot of times the collection of guys ends up giving more value than the stud they were used to acquire.

All these reports about how the Rangers have a "special" relationship with Yu. Maybe they can pull a Yankees and trade him for something and then resign, but I just don't see it happening.

Only May 10th, but this is setting up for an interesting couple of months.

Much depends on what your goal is when making some of these trades and hindsight is 20/20.

If Texas doesn't make the trade in 2015, they don't win the division (and likely don't make the playoffs).

And they start 2016 with Martin Perez as their #1 starter for the first 2 months of the season.


Texas' problem isn't really that they made bad trades, it's that they **** the bed in the playoffs the last 2 years.

All things considered I would rather have Brinson and Ortiz than Lucroy right now. Brinson would probably slide right in as the CF in 2018, and Ortiz would likely be in the rotation at that time, if not this season. But at the time I don't know who wouldn't have made that trade. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Brinson (23-AAA): .326, 4 HR, 4 SB, 4 CS, .382 OBP

Oriz (21-AA): 24.1 IP, 3.33 ERA, 0.986 WHIP. 26 SO

Cordell (25-AAA): .308, 5 HR, 3 SB, 2 CS, .381 OBP

If we don't re-sign Lucroy, I think we'll get a pick, after the Equalization draft round.

Hopefully Lucroy turns it on and we see his value. I'm hoping he just isn't dealing well with the idea of a contract season.

I think most of us knew Brinson would be a stud... But Lucroy was the perfect fit... Brinson has produced, Lucroy has not (this year)... So yeah, obviously gonna feel bad now.

Right, agreed. There was definitely nothing wrong with that decision at the time. Lucroy was definitely the perfect fit. Just funny how that kind of stuff ends up working out.
