You can get away with free outs with Hamels/Darvish on the mound because they can get the strikeout when needed.

He had Barnette and Claudio available to come out....what does he do instead? Trot a spare out, in a 2 run ball game with runners on.
I wouldn't ***** if this wasn't a recurring them with banny. He's just been terrible at managing the pen. No way around it.

Bannister can only throw who he has in the bullpen so I understand Hauschild will have to pitch sometimes.
But he should be down at the bottom of the list with Dyson as the last guys to put in a game right now. And at least Dyson has something of a history that he can get an out when he needs them.
Few scenarios that are more important for a relief pitcher than what Hauschild was put in for. And Bannister went with perhaps the bottom choice in that bullpen.
No one should have been surprised it went poorly.
But he should be down at the bottom of the list with Dyson as the last guys to put in a game right now. And at least Dyson has something of a history that he can get an out when he needs them.

I'm not as concerned about the bullpen as I am the defense. I think the rough start in the pen can be righted...just too many good arms. The defense however has gone to ***** Elvis, Odor, Mazara, DD, Choo, Gallo, Nap and even Lucroy have not been good. Lucroy and maybe Mazara (arm) are aberrations...the others I have zero faith in turning it around as they are not the best fielders anyways.

It's tough. You had to know the defense was going to be a problem, there's a lot of guys at important positions that are career "poor-fundamental-ists."
Kind of like the strikeouts were always going to be a big problem. Daniels did himself no favors in that regard with who he's put in the roster.
But hard to do a lot about that once you're in the season. Finding a good defender that doesn't tank your offense is hard.
Bullpen arms are an easier find. And not exacerbating it by poor manangement doesn't require a roster move.
