I'll simplify it:

If you expected Joey Gallo -- a guy who hit under 0.225 in AAA -- to be hitting significantly higher than 0.200 this year then you weren't paying attention.

If it surprises you that Mike Napoli -- a guy who has averaged a 0.240 average the last 5 years and hit around 0.150 in his last 170+ plate appearances last year is struggling to get over the Mendoza line 3 months into the 2017 season then you weren't paying attention. Predictable? Possibly not. Surprising? Not really. There's a reason Texas was able to wait until late to sign him to a deal - he wasn't getting a whole lot of interest.


To believe that either of those two's lack of batting average success is due to the Rangers hitting coach is ignoring how they were trending before they even got the first bit of coaching from him.

In spite of some horrific averages and approaches.... if the Rangers had say half as many blown saves as their mlb leading 16.... they should potentially have 8 more wins..... change their record accordingly!

So can someone explain to my why Otani would want to sign this offseason? I thought I read that if he waits another year he can get a lot more money.

Well it's another arm in the bullpen with closer experience, hopefully he finds some of his old success

And by hitting well, you mean?

He is 22, and played for the Rangers since 2013 (Spokane). Aside from the DOSL and Vz leagues.

In 398 G over 5 seasons, he has 13 HR and 26 SB. That's about 2.5 HR and 5 SB per season.

This year in A+ ball, he has 4 HRs and 7 SB as an OF. At 22, I don't know that I'd consider him a prospect, at this point.

Maybe the scenery will do Grilli well...

I don't know anything about Eduard Pinto, I'm assuming he wasn't going to sniff MLB despite the nice stats, but dang.
