Silver lining is the bullpen (minus the Bush blown save) has pitched pretty well of late. Hard to win games win you start off behind 6 runs. I frickin hate the Blue Jays.

If Ross hadn't been horrific, we would have likely won that game fairly easily. Now we get Stroman tomorrow

1st inning command seems to be a problem thus far with Ross. He's been good after. Hopefully it's just rust and part of him getting back to normal.

I agree. As such, I'm not super concerned about him at the moment. I think he'll keep improving and is certainly not as bad as he was last night.

Cashner is 1.2 IP away from qualifying... His 3.50 ERA would put him at 12th in the AL.

We'll have to see about Ross. Clearly he has some things to work out. We'll see if the Rangers are confident enough in his ability to adjust, to get to settling in.

And who knew Nick Martinez was ready to seize a rotation spot...
Martinez: 10 GS, 60.1 IP, 4.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP. His home ERA is 3.55.

His 4.33 ERA would qualify for 22nd in the AL, if he had 10.2 more IP.

At 26, he is poised to claim a spot in 2018. Suddenly a 2018 rotation of Hamels, Martinez and Perez isn't looking so bad. jk.

Disclaimer... I still haven't gotten cable. I made the call, and couldn't pull the trigger. Its like $60 just to add it, then $20+/- for DVR, and then Taxes, etc... I just couldn't pull the trigger on the $100/mo. Especially knowing really the only thing we need for Cable is the Rangers.

So, I haven't seen Cashner, Martinez... Ross... hell I haven't seen more than about 20 IP of Rangers baseball. I do still listen from time-to-time, but again there, only when driving.

I think you just fall victim too many times of small sample sizes with pitchers... No-name guys throwing good games happens daily in baseball.

Right. I appreciate DA94's optimism, but can't see guys like Cashner and Martinez sustaining that kind of production

geez....I sound like an Astro's fan

Cashner seems to always flirt with disaster innings several times a game. Having him at the top of the rotation might force me to a drinking problem ha

Every time Osuna is in the game I feel like he completely owns us, so I looked up some numbers.

Here is just regular season
Regular Season- 8 IP/ 2H/ 3 BB/ 8 K/ 0.00 ERA

In the postseason he has almost thrown the equivalent of a perfect game vs us
Post Season- 9.1 IP/ 1 H/ 0 BB/ 10 K/ 0.00 ERA

And here is his career numbers vs the Rangers including postseason
Career- 17.1 IP/ 3 H/ 3 BB/ 18 K/ 0.00 ERA/ 0.35 WHIP

It isn't falling victim.

I am a willful participant who is aware and mindful.

I tell people I grew up playing baseball and in baseball you can make a great career failing 75% of the time (.250 career). If you can't carry some level of blind optimism, baseball will drive you into depression.

Do I really think after 1 GS in MLB and after his rehab failures at AAA, that Ross can be projected for anything more than just another start? Yes... Sure... Maybe... No...

Now Martin Perez. Dude is going to be nails! I said it in 2008, when he was the 2nd youngest SP to play in the NW League (2nd to Felix). I've said it in 2009... 2010... 2011... 2012... 2013... I may not have said it in 2014, but I certainly said it in 2015... 2016 and I've said it in 2017. Barring injury or a catastrophic 2nd half to 2017... I will say it in Spring Training of 2018, and finally... finally... he will be the Ace of the rotation! BOOK IT!

People might not remember that the year Trout was the No. 1 prospect, Matrin Perez was No. 8.

Now, as Profar has thus far shown, that doesn't always equate the MLB success
jtstanley4621

Yeah he's basically right at the point where he's pitched two complete games against us with no runs allowed.

I don't know if this is the same with other teams, but the Rangers in particular it seems like if a guy owns us, he REALLY owns us. Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager, Justin Smoak (for at least this series), Ozuna... I could think of others but it seems like we suffer from "Ranger killers" at a very high rate.

I totally agree. I mean like... Perez has the stuff to be a good pitcher. He absolutely has the stuff to pitch to contact and have success. Sinking fastball, really good changeup.

I mean, he's not in the same realm as him at all, but I think that Perez's ceiling would be similar to Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel trusts his stuff and generally pitches deep into games, getting ground ball outs and keeps his pitch count down.

I don't think Perez will ever be as good as Keuchel, but it's frustrating because Perez just kind of nibbles instead of doing what the pitches he throws should dictate he do.

Exactly! It's the nibbling that really frustrates me. He could be a solid 2 if he would just trust his stuff

Some sarcasm.

Some tounge-in-cheek.

Some truth. You could probably go back and see my comments on Perez since 2008.

I'll leave it to the reader to assign each.

Just saw the replay of the Gomez HR, that batflip and moonwalk move down the baseline is gonna get him pegged next AB. Totally worth it tho

Someone mentioned a way to stream.

Looks like I've got home stream.

Nibbling. You give up that run and you're up 6 runs with two outs. Make them make contact, for the love of god

Exactly, with that lead if should be nothing but fastballs low in the zone. Make them put it in play and beat you.
