Its amazing what Yu can do when he can locate his fastball. Unhittable.

All Gallo has to do is pull a 3-1 fastball and we score. I can't stand the lack of situational hitting.

Gallo is not ever going to be a good situational hitter. He will be feast or famine.

I can assure you that I could hit a grounder to the right side against this guy if I was given 2 ab's

I get that. But asking a power hitting lefty to pull a ball shouldn't be that difficult.

More likely because you're late on the swing rather than actually trying to do so

Unless you have some experience playing some college ball/minor leagues. If that's the case then just say so

I didn't say I could carry a .300 average or hit 30 bombs. Just little things that this team continues to fail to execute grow frustrating. Hopefully you can understand that asking a guy like Gallo (a dead pull hitter) to pull a ball with a runner on 2nd and no outs isn't asking too much.

Then you should know that with a 1-strike count with nobody out and a runner in scoring position that you aren't wanting your biggest slugger to try and roll one on the ground.

He's there to knock runners in, not move runners over.

Exactly. He's a dead pull hitter. If it goes to left field it wasn't on purpose.

I don't want him to hit a grounder. Just pull anything. A fly ball to right works the same as a grounder to 2nd. Were you hoping for an opposite field homer?

Which is why Gallo saw up and in and low and away -- pitches that he's not going to pull on the ground.

Most hitters know what they are trying to do when they go to the plate -- the funny thing that people often miss is that these are stud pitchers that know what location to throw the ball in order to prevent it.

If you went up to the plate against a MLB pitcher with a 1.17 WHIP in almost 300 IP and he threw you a pitch on the outside part of the strike zone you wouldn't have a prayer of pulling it.

And that's ignoring that Gallo is up there trying to get a hit. Maybe you protect with 2 strikes, but you certainly aren't just trying to move the runners over. He's Joey Gallo, not Delino Deshields.

He was a day late (on a guy that tops out at 93) on both pitches he flied to left. I am not, by any means, claiming to as good as these guys but in 2 situations where anything on the right side of the field would move the runner, Gallo couldn't get it done. I would be criticizing coaching if they asked him to bunt, but he has to be able to pull the ball in those situations.

Except anything on the right side of the field wouldn't move the runners over. If he rolls over on a grounder it's a double play. If he hits a shallow pop fly (like the shallow one he hit to left), then the runners aren't going to advance (and they wouldn't be wise to risk it with only 1 out).

It's one thing to complain that your guy didn't put the ball in play with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs -- but a coach wants his slugger up there slugging. He doesn't want his slugger up there trying to push/pull it to a certain side of the field.

If pulling the ball on the ground against any big league pitcher was that easy, you'd see a whole lot more hit-and-runs being put on.
