We have Lohse, who hasn't shown much at AAA.

We have options, but I don't think they are ready.

The real problem is the 40.

Mendez (21-AA), Sadzeck (24-AA) and Surkamp (6.98 ERA with Oak in 9GS this year) are the other options.

Tepesch is gone.

It is why trading Oriz or Mendez or Tate are a concern. We traded Eickoff & Thompson last year, and with all the injuries, we are thin.

The good news is... if you look around MLB, almost every team has been decimated with injuries. Oakland, Seattle & LAAA are scrambling to find rotation pieces and the Dodgers just lost Kershaw. They have a 19 year old (Urias) whom I think they want to send back down, but his success coupled with no other options, is a problem.

The Dodgers picked up Tepesch and gave him a whirl, and IIRC, he is now with Oakland.

Just have to tread water until Darvish, Colby, and Kela get back.

Anyways, our starters as a whole have the 4th most walks in MLB.

I don't know if that indicates a coaching problem or not, but Doug Brocail, I'm looking at you. Remember why you had to change teams every year or two---you walked a ton of guys.

I don't have a problem saying Chi Chi is terrible (at the MLB level). He should be at AAA, not the Bigs. I took exception with saying he needed to put up or shut up. Now is not his time. He may never develop to be a big league player, but he still needs time.

I don't know about Brocail. The reviews seem positive. His approach has been described as focusing on pitching inside.

I haven't looked at the Walk totals and wonder if that is attributed to some of the pitchers we've rolled out, or systemic.

I'm one who looks at WHIP and thinks Ws are more favorable to Hs, which runs contrary to most. I'd rather Martinez give up 2 H and 5 W in a GS, than 5 H and 2 W. I don't like giving up Ws, but don't have problems with giving them up. 3-1 pitch... walk the guy, rather than grooving one.

Yep. After 0-2, he actually offered 2 straight pitches that caught a solid part of the plate.

I think the first meat pitch surprised the hitter and was lucky to draw a defensive swing. He was ready foe th next one.

His control his terrible. Its been a huge step back from where he was in previous seasons.

The whole starting rotation has had control issues.

Again, I'm looking at Doug Brocail to figure some things out.

Plus, we definitely don't have the bullpen to deal with this...

He's just not a major league pitcher. It's not as if he's throwing 98 and not hitting his spots. He's just not good and doesn't have command.

Even Cole Hamels is throwing almost a walk more per 9 innings than he has since he was a rookie.

3.4 this year and has not been above 2.6 since he was a rookie in 2006.

Not trying to defend Martinez here but he is facing the best line up in baseball. He has been pretty bad today but I for one didn't expect to win this game scoring just 4 runs.
