Pavlik. Blast from the past. I had to look up his stats to remember how bad he was.

Believe it or not, he was an All-Star in 1996.

Finished the season with a 5.19 ERA and 1.478 WHIP. 34 GS \ 201.0 IP \ 127 K

It wasn't like his 4.82 ERA at the half way point was spectacular. How bad must that team have been?!

The only pitcher that didn't suck was Ken Hill.

I want to say the rotation was Hill, Witt, Pavlik, Burkett, and Oliver.

According to baseball reference, they had the 5th best pitching staff in the AL (4.65 ERA) Run support was awesome!

Bravo, you were close. Kevin Gross instead of John Burkett. And I couldn't do that from memory - had to look it up. Burkett became a starting pitcher in 1997.

Ken Hill: 35 GS \ 3.63 ERA
Pavlik: 34 GS \ 5.19 ERA
Witt: 32 GS \ 5.41 ERA
Oliver: 30 GS \ 4.66 ERA
Gross: 19 GS (28G) \ 5.22 ERA
Burkett: 10 GS \ 4.06 ERA

Henneman was the closer - 5.79 ERA \ 31 Saves.

They did have:
Juan-Do: .314 \ 47 HR
Palmer: .280 \ 38 HR
Pudge: .300 \ 19 HR
Greer: .332 \ 18 HR
Elster (SS): .252 \ 24 HR

Went to a bunch of those games and don't remember a one...

Pavlik (Aldine grad) was good buddies with my college roommate's older brother. We road-tripped down to Houston and got drunk a number of times on his tab. That dude could put some beer away.

I remember getting to the Ballpark late with friends like 2nd-3rd inning when Pavlik was pitching. It was already 8-1 or something like that, we ended up losing of course, many beers had.

Henneman was another one, was our "closer" for awhile.

One thing that is a bit annoying about the Rangers this season is we seem to leak runs when we're up by a decent margin. Oakland should be 100 percent out of this game but we allowed 3 just then and they're mostly back in it. the last thing we need is yet another situation where we have to end up using Bush, Diekman, or Dyson.

Was just thinking the same thing. Maybe we can get some more runs. Hate to have to use those guys to secure a win in a game in which we had a 6 run lead.

I think you keep him as a 4th outfielder/1B. He will get plenty of at-bats. Like D-Murph back in the day always ended up with his share.

Thinking about what we got Dyson for (essentially nothing... Although it was a trade with the Marlins, who aren't the best managed organization), you'd have to think that JD can bargain hunt for another decent reliever. I hope we can keep Rua. I really like his versatility. He's a solid player.
