I know when I went through the process of losing my mom, I was a little distracted. I'm glad my boss didn't fire me.

I know there is no crying in baseball and I don't know what you do with a guy who probably isn't in the mental frame of mind to take the mound, but I have some sympathy for the guy. At a minimum, I'm not going to attack him.

I think we can all sympathize with his situation.

But Tolleson's performance didn't just come out of the blue this season -- the signs were there last season.

Tolleson was really good last year. He's a noticeably worse pitcher this year, when looking at his stuff and his pitch quality. It's night and day. The only way you can say 'you saw signs last year' is you're the type who is ticked off every time the closer allows a base runner or doesn't like that he doesn't get as many Ks as you'd like.

I would guess Maddux or Banny saw something last year that made them feel more comfortable with closing post season games with Diekman and Dyson rather than Tolly.

He pitched 5 straight days at the end of season and was a little broken by the postseason.

It's worth noting that the two pitchers who People were concerned about being overused last year for the Rangers are currently hurt (Kela) or broken (Tolleson).

Last year, Tolleson was a control pitcher who threw a low 90s fastball wherever he wanted and one of the best changeups in baseball. This year, he basically quit throwing his changeup all together and can't locate his fastball for ****.

He's a different pitcher.

Tangent: I'm extremely concerned about Bush's workload and hope it's managed in a reasonable manner this year. He's a beast, but I don't won't him broken.
