TB loss last night was big. Matchup-wise, Toronto has a chance to split the final two.

Minnesota just isn't a good baseball team.

Jump out to an early lead so we can get a 6.5 official game.

6 down, 1 to go.

But can they keep this momentum going? They have to win tomorrow, then possibly a one game play-in thing, THEN the wildcard game, in order to get into the ALDS, right?

Tied for the final spot now. Could get in without a play in game if TB cooperates.

What happens if all three end up tied? I read te tiebreaker article linked on another thread but could not understand it at all.

I'm betting TB loses tomorrow, and with the Rangers winning, there won't be an extra game.

How do they decide home field for WC game? HtH?

That tie-breaker for 3 way tie doesn't make any sense.

Texas has one shot. They have to win only game to move on. However, Cleveland and Tampa get two shots to win one game.

That's an unfair system.

I think that the rationale is that no matter which team it is, they have to win 2 games in order to advance to the play offs.

TB beats Clevland
Cleveland beats Tx

TB and CLE face each other again. Each team has 1 win at that point.

Either team will have 2 wins or order to move on.

TB beats Cle
Texas beats Cle

In order for Texas to move on, they will have to win another game when they face TB.

TB and Cleveland have 3 games to win twice.
Rangers have 2 games to win twice.

It's a lousy system. But I doubt it comes down to that scenario.

The advantage to being in the Rangers' position in the event of a 3 way tie is the day off.

Schepplers and Nathan have been used an awful lot in the last week. I think a day off with only a 1 game shot is a fair trade off.

I don't. I'd much rather have the two games. How do they decide which teams get two games and which team gets one?

If they thought the day off was really important, then they could just rest Nathan and whoever else they needed to in the first game. They could obviously still win that game without Nathan and whoever else was rested. But if they lost it, they would be in the exact same position they are in now. One game to get in the wildcard after getting a day of rest for the players who needed it.

There really is no argument for the rangers position being equal to the other teams' position.

You never rest the reliever in a playoff situation assuming you'll win the next game.

Texas had the worst winning percentage in games played between the 3 teams, of course they would deserve to be in that position in the event of a 3-way tie.

Emy,

My only point was that it is ridiculous to say they are not in a worse spot than clev/Tampa in the tie breaker situation. Your argument for saying its a fair trade off was that they et a day of rest. My point was that they could still give anyone a day of rest and then be in the same position they are in now even if they lost. Whether they would do that or not may be a different story, but it's an option so the clev/Tampa situation is definitely better. Or if they wanted, they could play everyone and hope to win the first game and then get a day off after that.

Yea I understand why we are in this position, so it is fair in that sense.

So I guess if Tampa wins today, it's actually better if clev wins too? That way we get Tampa at home. Obviously it will be better if we win and Tampa loses.

In the 3 way tie, it is the cumulative best record against the other opponents that matters.

Cleveland's record against TB and TEX is better than TB against Cle and Tex who is better than Tex against Cle and TB..

It's really quite simple!

Doesn't matter now. TB and TX both won, so it's win tomorrow and move on. TX is on a 7-game winning streak, and TB had to fight hard today NOT to get swept by TOR.
