The more and more I think about it, the more I want Buxton. The guy has the tools to be a perennial all star. Even though he's risky as hell, I don't think you can turn down a guy who could be the next Upton or Granderson.

We need pitching, so I say take Buxton and then make the next 4-5 picks all pitchers. In a draft where no pitcher is a sure thing to be a star, I think you take your chances in the 2nd to 5th rounds than the first when your best option is a college pitcher who shows signs of inconsistency.

Is this an Astros thread?!

I've said Buxton from day one. 5 tool player. Who's his agent? Please not boras

Don't think its Boras. The Chron article over the weekend mentioned that Appel was I think.

Supposedly part of the knock against Buxton is that he's been playing against small town competition.

I would be 100% fine with Buxton. He has tons of potential and has a chance to be a superstar if everything pans out. So if we go that route I will not complain one bit.

With that being said, I still think we should pick Appel. He is a polished pitcher who should rise through the ranks fairly quickly. With our move to the AL, we're going to have to have better pitchers to face these high powered lineups. That's why I think we should go with a pitcher, but again, I won't complain if we decide to go with Buxton

I wouldn't touch a boras player with a 10ft pole

Only issue with Buxton is the fact that he grew up in a small town and his level of competition has probably been somewhat similar to class 2A baseball in Texas.

That is scary as hell.

sorry didn't read the post about level of comp.

I don't like the Buxton pick. It just screams extremely high risk.

I think the draft needs to be pitching centric.

Of all the major sports the MLB draft is the most hit or miss. So i think you should take the risk. JD said yesterday that on average only 20 guys per draft become everyday big leaguers. So why not risk it if the reward is high?

That's a pretty bad idea.

Intentionally limiting your pool of talent because an agent is good at his job is just bad business. Think where the Rangers would likely be today had they not drafted Teixeira.

Would you not draft Stephen Strasburg because Boras is his agent?

There isn't a Strasberg in this class. Considering the draft talent this year. Let me rephrase my statement. I wouldn't touch a kid from this draft who is represented by boras. They will be vastly over paid.

Wow...Baseball America has A&M's Wacha as the #8 overall player in the draft pool.

Nice.

You're still limiting yourself because of the agent. Not wanting to sign somebody because they would be prohibitively expensive is logical, but not all Boras clients have been prohibitively expensive.

As an Astros fan I've been burned by boras enough to warrant my hesitations

I think I like the idea of drafting the Correa kid. He's apparently a SS who may grow to become a 3B with some power potential. He's 13 months younger than Buxton.

Anyone know what round Stripling is projected in? He could be a low ceiling guy with a future in the bullpen.

Wacha and Naquin should both be first round picks.

Stripling is listed as the 126th best prospect by Baseball America.

Would expect Stripling to be higher than that. A good showing in the NCAA playoffs would be awesome.

Gotta go with Buxton

No Buxton, please. The Astros need pitching, not another outfielder.

Buxton could be a Beltran type player. You take that chance

Buxton for sure. We'll get a good pitcher with our 41st pick or whatever it is.

Won't happen, but hoping Buxton somehow falls to #3 for the Mariners.

I'm hoping he doesn't fall to #2

After listening to Luhnow on the radio today during the game, I'm starting to think that they may be leaning towards drafting Buxton. He mentioned how rare it is to find a player who can play solid defensively at a crucial defensive position (CF, SS, C were the examples he gave) while also generating power and contact at the plate. He never mentioned any names of players they were considering, but I just got the impression that the skillset he mentioned described Buxton very well. I guess we'll find out tomorrow

It describes Correa actually. More so than Buxton. I would love Correa

Mlbtraderumors has a snippet saying the pick will be Appel.
Houston Summit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I thought about that as well, maz. That also describes him as well. But based on what I heard, it sounded like they were deviating away from Appel and leaning towards these high ceiling prospects. I could be wrong, but that's just the impression I got from listening to the interview

Pitchers can be found in the supplemental pick and 2nd round. I want Buxton
Mr.Bond

Plus I don't like pitchers from a 4 year school. Most of them has dick coaches like Childress who abuse their arms

Isnt the guy we got last yr supposedly a 5tool player?
Mr.Bond

Springer is our future RF. Buxton is a CF
