I have been a fan since my dad took me to see the Colt 45s play Stan Musial and the Cardinals the first year they became a team. I however, cannot stand the thought of them moving to the American League with the rule I hate most. So I will now become a Cardinals or Brewers fan and go to their parks once in a blue moon. AMF Astros!

That makes you a snobby National League fan, not an Astos fan. Also, you better get over it soon because the DH is coming to the NL soon whether you like it or not.

And why are you so sure of this?

I've never been a fan of the AL and the dh but that's where the astros are going so I have accepted it and will continue to support them.

I could never just start rooting for the cardinals or any other team but I do understand your frustration. When the oilers left town I still watched the NFL, I just didn't have a team until the texans came to houston, I'm a houston pro sports fan.

I went to the astros clubhouse extravaganza last Saturday at minute maid park, and had a blast touring the clubhouse walking on the field and being able to sit in the dugout. Go astros!

if you were really an astros fan, i'm not sure how you could be a cardinals fan.

and the fact that the other team you're considering is the brewers just kinda makes it look like you want to use the AL move as an excuse to bandwagon hop over to a more currently succesful franchise.

my guess is you're back on board with the stros by 2015.

Obviously, you were never an Astros fan to begin with.

So ****ing stupid. If you're a real Astros fan, you'd support them wherever they end up playing whether it was a league with a DH or a league where everyone has to bat with their off-hand.

Considering the rivalry between St. Louis and Houston, you changing your allegiance would be like switching from being an Aggie fan to Tech because you don't like the SEC.

You do realize the Brewers are losing Fielder and won't have Braun for 50 games next season, but go ahead and root for them, d-bag

As a Cardinal fan I would not consider the rivalry from a Cardinal viewpoint to be that strong. There's just not a deep seeded hatred between the two. It's not like the Cubs and Cards. Houston will be better off with the move because they can form a natural rivalry with the Rangers in the long term. To be honest the Cardinal fans in general just don't look at the Astros as a major rival. I would say there is actually quite a bit of respect that each organization has for each other.

If you leave your favorite team because of a DH rule, you never were a fan.

EOT

I'm a Rangers fan and don't like the DH, but it is what it is. Every level of organized ball gives you the option of using a DH or letting the pitcher hit. It's part of the game. Hopefully, they are smart and make it all DH or no DH. Separating leagues by this major rule is ridiculous IMO, "tradition or no tradition".

FALSE. Just a few weeks there were tens of Astros posters talking about how realignment was going to break up that storied MLB rivalry they had with the Cardinals.

Sorry mhayden but you are wrong and please try reading and comprehending a post before you reply. The post states that Cardinals fans don't think of the Astros as a rival. I did not say anything about how the Astros fans view things.

Hard to compare a divisional rivalry of 15+ years to one of 100+ years.

One 'natural' rivalry created at the expense of losing 50 years of history.

I never claimed this and I doubt you could produce a single poster that claimed it was a 'storied' rivalry. In fact I think you would find more Ranger fans claiming this rivalry and getting all POed that many 'Stros fans pulling for the Cards in the WS because Berkman.

That's the joke, ding dong. Cards don't view it as a rivalry, astros do. He's making fun of astros fans.

I used the laughing icon for a reason.

There is no Astros/Cardinals "rivalry". Like any division when both teams are competing for a length of time the games become much more important (like Angels/Rangers), but its hardly a rivalry as it alternates based on who is the top dog and the one chasing.

Cubs/Cards is a rivalry.
Yankees/Red Sox is a rivalry.

It's easy to see because when the other team comes into town prices shoot up. There was more of a crowd when Texas came to Houston than when St. Louis did.

1ri·val noun \ˈrī-vəl\

Definition of RIVAL

1
a : one of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can possess
b : one striving for competitive advantage

On a sidenote, weren't the Buffaloes part of the Cardinal organization?

Thank you for the clarification TxAggie2011, based on that exact definition LSU and Vanderbilt are rivals. Hell, by that definition LSU and Eastern Michigan are rivals.

Originally was a Houston fan when I was a wee lad, a Houston Buffs fan when they were in the Texas League and a AA farm club of the Cardinals. Favorite player was Howard Pollet. Specially remember the pitching duels between Pollet and Bob Moncrief of the SA Missions. Them was the days.

The game is bigger than the team. RIP Colt .45s/Astros (1962-2012).
