let me guess... Ricketts is starting his own microbrewery and will exclusively supply Wrigley?

That saddens me, although there is still a chance that Old Style may be available in Wrigley in limited quantities.

But what saddens me even more is that my dad was right. He told me for as long as I can remember that he would never live to see the Cubs win the World Series. On August 30th his prediction came true. He will be watching from above next to Ron Santo and Harry Caray when the day finally comes. It will be a bittersweet moment for me, for sure.

Sorry for your loss. It is sad so many cubs fans won't get that chance.

Sveum fired. Now we wait to see if Girardi comes home to take over the Cubs.

Sveum didn't have much to work with, but I wasn't impressed with him either. It will be interesting to see if any real improvements are made for the team next season considering the management told us to sit back and accept that we'd be awful the past two years.

Castro and Rizzo had awful seasons following their contract extensions. Rizzo hit .233 and Castro hit .245. They're capable of better than that, but that's foreboding considering they're the 2 long-term solutions signed on the team.

Jackson ended up with an ERA of basically 5 and a WHIP of 1.5, and he's signed to a 4 year 52 million dollar deal. Samardzija had a 4.3 ERA though he did have a high K count. There wasn't a 10 game winner on the team.

The only bright spots on the year were Wood, Gregg being a decent pickup, watching Junior Lake, and Castillo and Navarro having decent averages while splitting time at the plate.

Thus ends another year of Cubs baseball.

Girardi resigned with the Yankees.

I'm guessing Manny Acta is our next manager.

With all due respect, I wish people would recognize resign and re-sign mean different things.

On a side note, another young coach trying to break into the managerial ranks is put in a tough situation and then gets let go in pretty short order, at which point it'll likely be an incredibly difficult climb to ever land another managerial job.

That's not to say Sveum didn't have his flaws, or that he's manager quality, but baseball sure has developed a habit of eating its young.

I'm not sure, if I were a young guy, I'd have any interest in the Cubs job having seen Quade and Sveum so quickly get thrown into Lake Michigan.

Then again, maybe I'm wrong, otherwise how does Manny Acta keeps getting job offers...

chicago fans seriously thought he'd leave the Yankees? For what would he have to come to in Chicago?

He's from Chicago, played in Chicago, and I believe his wife is from the area, as well. And the Yankees near future ain't all that bright.

if you really thought that the possibility of Girardi choosing the Cubs was unfounded speculation by fans and media, then you are very uninformed.

i never once said it was unfounded, but the fact that he never asked/demanded/requested the yankees to let other teams allow him to interview (a la the old atlanta hawks coach) when requested elsewhere prior to his contract ending at the end of the month was a huge clue that he wasn't going elsewhere. He's earned the right to call his shots with the org the way he handled himself these last 6 seasons. Me personally, i never saw chicago as a place for him to go as the team has been stuck in a perpetual rebuilding mode for what seems like almost a decade and i don't think he wants to deal with that again after what he dealt with in miami, to be honest.

Hmm, reports I read said that he wanted to talk to the Cubs before making a decision but the Yankees said no.

no, you never said it was unfounded, but your original questioning certainly implied it.

Girardi was on Mike & Mike this morning and they asked him the number 1 reason he decided to re-sign (happy, TXAggie2011?) with the Yankees and he said his kids didn't want to move away from their friends.

It sounds to me like Girardi is a polite person.

Being nice? To whom? Shouldn't his #1 reason for staying be that he believes in the franchise paying him millions of dollars per year?

Within the same articles that were talking about the possibility of Girardi coming to the Cubs, they were also talking about all the things he was saying that made it look like he wanted to stay in New York if at all possible. Sure there are reasons that he'd want to come to Chicago, but everything I'd seen that was quoting him made it sound like he'd be back in New York as long as they wanted him.

So now we're hearing rumors for Manny Acta, a mangager with a career .418 winning percentage, who has never had a team at or over .500, and who has been fired from both of his previous managerial jobs before the season was over.
