I swear that guy was never less than 45 minutes late to scheduled autograph sessions and other mandatory appearances, but he could pitch. He was the only Ranger besides Nolan who had the ability to really pitch well in Arlington.

True, Kevin Brown sucked.

Here is the total list of guys who have had marginal success in Arlington since they built the Ballpark (I gauge Ranger SP success as a winning record in at least 20 starts and a sub 4.50 ERA):

1994: Kenny Rogers (11-8, 4.46)
1995: Kenny Rogers (17-7, 3.38); Roger Pavlik (10-10, 4.37)
1996: Ken Hill (16-6; 3.63)
1997: Darren Oliver (13-12, 4.20)
1998: Rick Helling (20-7, 4.41); Aaron Sele (19-11, 4.23)
2000: Rick Helling (16-13, 4.48)
2001: Doug Davis (11-10, 4.45)
2002: Kenny Rogers (13-8, 3.84)
2003: N/A
2004: Ryan Drese (14-10, 4.20)
2005: Chris Young (12-7, 4.26); Kenny Rogers (14-8, 3.46)
2006: Vincente Padilla (15-10, 4.50)
2007: N/A
2008: N/A

So in fifteen seasons, there have been exactly fourteen guys who have accomplished the "above .500/sub 4.50" feat, and a few of these were right at 4.50. That's depressing.

Edit: Kevin Brown was around in 1994, and he was terrible that year.

The good old days of "Rogers, Helling and 3 days of shelling"

I'm not sure which is more embarrassing. That list or that you defined "Rangers pitching success" as loosely as you did.

Jesus that sucks.

It gets more depressing if you start looking for guys under 4.25 or 4.00. That list includes six guys.

It's pretty obvious that he wasn't talking solely about TBPIA considering Nolan never pitched there.

I know that, just interesting to see the change in guys who were here both before and after the ballpark change. Brown had some injury issues as well, if I remember correctly.

I don't think our stadium has helped by any imagination, but it certainly hasn't killed the pitching here.

With the exception of Kenny, who had varingly levels of successful here, how many pitchers were consistently more successful before or after playing with the Rangers? We just need talent that is motivated...and to make sure that Connor stays the **** away from our pitchers.

It's funny how you remember where you were and what you were doing during certain historical events like 9/11 and so on, (does a Texas Rangers game count as historical?)

I was 14 and my friend called and said turn on the tv Kenny Rogers is a couple outs from a perfect game. One of the few positives of that strike shortened season.

I also can remember where I was during Ryan's 5000th strikeout, 6th and 7th no hitters.

I was at that game. Granted I was six years old... I was there.

I was in a luxury box (GTE/Verizon). I should have kept my ticket stub as now a days every person seemed to have been there.
