Interesting that Wemby's season this year would place third among all MVPs in the last decade

So the dam Hawks just keep winning so it looks like our pick will be in the low 20s.
It's doubtful that they draft a player there that will make an immediate impact. One mock I saw had the Spurs taking Jayden Quaintance. I wasn't a fan before but since we're picking late, it's a pretty good value pick. Everything points to him being an elite defender and a project on offense.
If this is the case, I agree with what Soup said earlier about keeping all the 2nd round picks and see if you get lucky with one of them.
Also, makes it more likely that they could trade that 1st pick if there isn't a great pick.

This looks like a really deep draft though, and even though Yaxel and Steinbach will be gone, we probably have good options with Karin Lopez, Morez Johnson, Thomas Haugh, Allen Graves or even a Vassel clone in Cameron Carr.

Quaintance isn't my favorite, but we could look at him like Tiago Splitter.

We knew Splitter wasn't going to come over right away so he dropped in value. But when he did come over he was a solid role player for us. JQ has some developing to do but he does have potential to be in the DPOY conversation. So drafting him for his defensive upside might be locking in our third string Center for now with the idea that in 3 years he's the Kornet replacement. He's definitely a high upside high Downside pick.

For whatever reason this game crossed my mind today and thought I'd share the misery.

Ibaka going 11-11 and posting a new career high 26, with Perkins tossing in 15 which was the 3rd most he scored in his entire OKC tenure. We woulda gone up 3-1 with game 5 at home and instead the series evened up for us to get backdoor swept. Still pisses me off to this day.

Between that series, Ray Allen's shot, the Fisher shot, Kawhi's Zaza encounter and Ginobili's foul on Dirk I often wonder how many we could have had. Luck always plays into winning a championship IMO but it's crazy how many times we lost to the team that would go on to win the championship when I felt like we had them on the ropes.

2013 Heat still burns me up. Just make a free throw or get a rebound....

It really is that simple. 5 teams in the hunt. Pistons, Knicks, and Boston in the east and Spurs and Thunder in the west. Boston looked great tonight. Doesn't matter. If Spurs stay healthy, they'll win the title.

In this mock, he has Acuff 3rd overall then Sacramento passing on Peterson to take Caleb Wilson so DnP drops to 5.

Alex Karaban, 6-8, UConn senior forward
Karaban sprinted off a curl, caught the ball while moving away from the basket, turned and then fired a massive 3-pointer in the closing minute of UConn's epic comeback over Duke in the Elite 8. The moment is emblematic of his shooting ability, which would be a positive addition to the Spurs. But Karaban belongs in the top-20 range despite his age (he'll be 24 as a rookie) because he can also bury smaller defenders in the post and make the smart choice as a cutter and passer. Even on the final play against Duke, Karaban, in what could've been his final moment at UConn, decided to pass the ball to a wide-open Braylon Mullins for the win.

He's a similarly high-effort, high IQ player on the defensive end, which helps him overcome his average athleticism. He lacks the upside to be a star, but the Spurs have enough of those players. What they need is a connector who enhances the stars around him, and Karaban is one of the best in this draft class at doing just that.


Yeah, I like Karaban, but he's gonna be there in the 2nd round. Wouldn't consider him over Isaiah Evans, Morez, Cenac or that dirty sip Swain.

It would be peak madness to draft Karaban in the first round. He will 100% be available in the second round and I'm not sure he even gets a fully guaranteed NBA contract. I think he's going to be on a 2-way to prove he can shoot it and defend.
