Minnesota needs a PG desperately and takes a project center Joan Beringer over Kasparas.

Brooklyn up on 19th. Took Demin at 8. I would go with McNeeley here.

Two great picks from both a talent and fit perspective. Land a quality big in free agency and it will be one heckuva offseason. Will be a lot of fun to watch these young perimeter players and Wemby figure it out.

KOC:

Draft Grade: A

San Antonio is just about the perfect fit for Carter Bryant. He hits spot-up 3s, attacks closeouts, makes the right play, and busts his ass on defense. He'll have a simple role with room to grow over the years and will be a nasty frontcourt fit with Victor Wembanyama. He's a rangy, athletic forward who projects as a highly versatile defender. And though he's raw as a ball-handler, he's a skilled spot-up shooter and a hyper-aware cutter. At a minimum, he has the baseline skills to be a great role player for the Spurs with the upside to someday be much more.

Scouting Report
View article
Cutting: Bryant is an excellent mover without the ball. He looks for cutting opportunities and finishes with power on lobs. Typically, he'll do anything the team needs whether it's setting a screen, staying active in the dunker spot, or crashing the boards.

Spot-up shooting: Bryant is a solid 3-point shooter off the catch with fluid mechanics and a high release. He caught fire to finish the season, making 45.5% of his 3s over his final six games in the conference and NCAA tournaments. And though his free throw success rate was only 69.5%, he made 68-of-77 attempts from the line (88.3%) as a high school senior.

Defensive upside: With his size, strength, and quickness, he projects as a player who could switch across multiple positions. He must learn fundamentals and avoid mistakes, but long term he has all the tools.

CONCERNS

Shot creation: Lacks the advanced handle to generate his own looks, and he's even limited doing the basic stuff like attacking closeouts. He loses control of the ball too often and makes sloppy passes. In the half court, he got to the rim only once on self-created chances and got blocked.

Shooting dynamism: He is a solid shooter from a standstill, but doesn't hit 3s off of movement or off the dribble yet.

This ESPN livestream LOVED the Bryant pick and think the Spurs are the biggest winner of the draft.

I saw! I guess Kasparas to Miami. I thought Traore was set in stone.

CBS:

Bryant only averaged 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds, but shot 46% on unguarded catch-and-shoot 3-pointers. He's a high-level athlete and multi-positional defender at just 19 years old. He's 6-foot-7 and sometimes Arizona would even match him up defensively with opposing point guards. There aren't many 3-and-D players in this draft but he fits that archetype. It's critical to build floor spacing for Wemby, Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle. They needed shooting and they got it with this pick. (Adam Finkelstein)

Pro Comparison: Dorian Finney-Smith
Summary
Bryant is a California native who was a prolific high school basketball player and earned invites to the McDonald's All-American game and Jordan Brand Classic. A top-30 national recruit, he signed with Arizona over Louisville and other suitors, and he spent one season with the Wildcats.
About
  • A prolific high school star who earned McDonald's All-American honors, Bryant was a top-30 consensus national recruit.
  • Before college Bryant played for his father, D'Cean Bryant, played college basketball at Long Beach State.
  • One of four freshmen to have at least 150 rebounds, 35 assists, 35 blocks and 35 steals last season joining Duke's Cooper Flagg, Maryland's Derik Queen and Georgetown's Thomas Sorber.
Strengths
  • Ideal frame for a big wing. Measured 6-6.5 at NBA Draft Combine without shoes and has a wingspan of 6-11.75 to go with 8-10 standing reach.
  • Projectable role. Showed immense defensive potential in a limited role at Arizona and was a 66th percentile weapon on catch-and-shoots, 80th percentile jump shooter and 92nd percentile at-rim finisher.
  • Prolific scorer in high school. Averaged 22.1 points and 13.7 rebounds per game and was named Pacific Coast MVP as a junior.
Weaknesses
  • Room for improvement with his ability to create on offense. Did not get a ton of chances to handle the ball or initiate at Arizona but looked uncomfortable when he did. Using his frame and strength to be an attacker can unlock a big piece of his potential in the NBA.
  • Made a respectable 37.1% of his 3-point attempts but has room to improve overall as a shooter given his usage in a smaller role. If he isn't going to be a dynamic movement shooter he needs to be consistent when asked to catch and shoot in spot-up situations.
Combine Data
  • 20-yard shuttle run: 3.14 seconds
  • Wingspan: 6 feet, 11.75 inches
  • Standing vertical leap: 30.5 inches
  • Standing reach: 8 feet, 10 inches
  • Lane agility: 11.25 seconds
  • Three quarter sprint: 3.07 seconds
  • Max vertical leap: 39.5 inches

Brooklyn reached HIGH on Drake Powell. I really like him, but it is early. Should be a D&3 guy. But slow slow release. Great athlete, up there with Carter Bryant.

NOLA on the clock after taking Fears and Queen.

I think Newell will be a bust, so I think NOLA picks Newell.
Guitarsoup

Forgot that pick went to Atlanta. Newell is a dunker and that is it, so makes sense for Trae, but I dont believe in him at all.

Orlando: Take Jase Richardson!

Alright, my guy Jase Richardson to Orlando. Great fit.

Back to Brooklyn for a couple picks. McNeeley and Danny Wolf?

Max Raynaud
Ryan Kalkbrenner

Wow what a draft for the Spurs. Couldn't have gone any better tbh. I really didn't think Bryant would be there at 14. Didn't realize the close connection between him and Harper also.

I Haven't heard about a connection between them. I know Harper is from Jersey and Bryant is from California. What is the connection?

Most athletic center in the draft.

That means Raynaud didn't get picked in the first round.

Where are the guys that wanted the Spurs to take Raynaud at 14 because he plays Chess with Wemby.

Time for the Spurs to trade for one of those Charlotte 2nd rounders and grab either Fleming or Raynaud

Sweeney should have a field day with our defense. We all of a sudden have very good defenders with size in every position.

RC said before the draft the Spurs traded out of the 2nd because we didn't have the Roster spots. We have 12 guys now, so 2 or 3 open spots and have the full MLE, BAE, and vet mins. My guess is they already have something planned out for those roster spots and cash.

My guess would be Kornet or Looney then Yabusele or LaRavia.

Then a vet min center for 3rd string. Nick Richards has a 5M team option for the Suns, do they keep him at 3rd string behind Mark Williams and Malauch? Thomas Bryant. Biyumbo. Mo Bamba. DeAndre Jordan. Jock Landale. Maybe UDFA like Goldin or Amari Williams.

I would trade a future 2nd to Charlotte to grab Raynaud or Kalkbrenner, especially if one would take a Two-Way.

C: Wemby - Kornet - ???
PF: Barnes - Sochan - Yabusele
SF: Vassell - Bryant - Keldon
SG: Castle - Julian - Branham
PG: Fox - Harper - Wesley

I also think we could start Fox-Harper-Castle and stagger Harper/Fox to keep one on the floor all the time if Harper's off ball shooting is there.

I think Bryant is a 20-25mpg guy this year.

BW said they were surprised Bryant fell to them at 14. And the spurs actually looked at ways to move up in the draft to take him. He was very high on their board. Incredible.
