It's a testament to wemby that a 20-win team was fun to watch for a full season.

Boban intentionally missed his second free throw so the crowd could get free chicken!

He's so humble and confident at the same time. I never thought I would see a Spur that I thought could knock Duncan down the all-time list, but here we are.

My kiddo asked me who my favorite Spur ever was...and I said Timmy, of course. But...ask me in 10 years.

Spurs went 9-11 in their last 20 games. Not so great for draft position but it creates great momentum and confidence going into the off-season. Considering this year's draft, the confidence and momentum may be more important.
Agree.

Back to Point Sochan as we Fail for Flagg.

Wanna see 30mpg for Cissoko, Julian, Jeremy, and Zach.
Been watching some videos and I'm not sure that Flagg is the jewel of 2025. Ace Bailey looks really good.

No team with Wemby will be tanking. We should be hoping for Atlanta to completely implode.

I don't think that we are going to make moves to be a strong playoff contender. We probably sign a mid-level veteran free agent, make our draft picks, maybe bring back Mamu and we are probably slightly better than this year, but still in the lottery.

I feel like they will trade some of those picks to move up if they don't have a top 5 pick.

Next maybe but not this year.

If they just played the whole season like they did the last month they'd be a play in contender. Factor in everyone getting a little better and you're officially NOT tanking. I'd love a move to bring in a Bridges but I'm not counting on it. Regardless, unless Vic gets injured at the Olympics this team will be very competitive next season.

Yeah, I don't know if you consider it tanking vs not trying to add the pieces to be competitive. I just don't think we do much to improve this summer. Make our picks, maybe sign a FA role player/veteran and run it back. Trades will likely be limited to shuffling assets around. Like move our two seconds for a future second or up for a late first.

I also don't know if we can count on the Spurs to play the way they did the last 20 games for all of next season. I certainly don't have faith that Branham and Collins will keep up their play. The line for us will probably be low 30s.

Vassell finished 10th in the NBA on FG% on drives with min 8 drives/game with 56%. Just above Booker, Kyrie and DeRozan. Everyone above him will be all-NBA guys with the exception of maybe Jaylen Brown who finished at 56.1%.

Wemby finished at 14th in pull up 3%. Just ahead of Curry, Trae Young, Herro, and Lilliard.

Vassell's post-ASB run was one of the most encouraging takeaways from the season. If my math is right, he also averaged 5.3 assists per game over those 18 post-ASB games and really passed the eye test as an improved playmaker. Then you look up and all of a sudden Devin is an efficient driver, above average three point shooter, outstanding midrange shooter, and a willing and improved playmaker. And an average defender with upside. At 23 years old. I am not counting on it happening, but I am not closing the door on Devin having #2 option potential just yet.

Rough Warriors finale for Klay.

Will be interesting to see where Golden State goes from here.

Warriors paid 177M in luxury tax on top of their 205M in salaries to be a lottery team.

But only a 3.4% chance at a top 4 pick

It went from 'will Klay get more than $20MM/yr?' to 'I think Klay should probably retire.' really fast. It's amazing he was able to come back from two consecutive major injuries to win a championship but I think it's time for him to hang it up.

Klay put up 18ppg on 43/39/94 shooting, leading the league in FT%. He's at least a mid level guy and I would take him there for the veteran presence

I think he definitely can be a mid level role guy but he doesn't strike me as someone who would take that role and less money.

Klay in the Julian spot seems pretty nasty, wouldn't hate bringing in a sniper with championship experience to put next to Wemby/Sochan/Dev; especially if we can get a PG in here like Castle that you can have guarding the lead ball handler. Then you stick Sochan on the best wing and have Dev and Klay guarding the lesser guard and forward.

Agree. He's completely washed defensively, but he will make high IQ plays and provide leadership and spacing - things we definitely need.

He put up 54 in a game just last year and had 25 games where he had 5+ threes this year.

Some FAs I'm interested in for what little cap space we have:

Tyus Jones
Klay
KCP
Kyle Anderson
Isaiah Hartenstein
Goga Bitadze
Batum
Issac Okoro
Jalen Smith
Naji Marshall
Grayson Allen

KCP all day.

I think DeAngelo Russell would be nice next to Wemby but I don't see that happening. I just don't see the Spurs handing out a long term deal to any FA this summer.

As far as Klay goes, he's not nearly the player he used to be and looks a bit washed at times but those shooting splits still can't be ignored. If the Spurs aren't going to spend the money/cap space on any long-term prospects, I still don't necessarily hate the idea of giving Klay an above market 2 year deal. You have him for 1 year to help with spacing and then it becomes a valuable trade asset as a large expiring or he plays well and you run it back for another season.

Some ideas:

Trying to get our hands on Brogdon as a stop gap at PG would be a nice move IMO. I think he's attainable with all the SRPs that we have. Another guy that might fit this mold is Kris Middleton.

A couple of FA's that I would have my eyes on are Royce O'Neal and Simone Fontecchio. Gordon Hayward is another if looking for a veteran presence. He was playing pretty well before being sent to OKC this season.

Obviously this is all predicated on the fact that the Spurs aren't wanting to acquire any all-stars or hand out any monster contracts at the particular moment.

If willing to pay more I think Anunoby would be at the top of my list (if he becomes an FA). Monk, Quickley, and D'Lo are others I would look at. Wouldn't feel very comfortable over spending for them though.

I think Portland may do Brogdon for Graham and Julian + seconds just to dump the salary. He has 22.5M for just next year.

Khris has 2y64M total left, so same timeline as Collins. You would have to do Keldon+Graham in a trade. He turns 33 this summer.

I'm fine with Hayward - basically cheaper white Klay.

Would love OG Anunoby, but he wants the max and wants to be a top offensive option and doesn't realize he is a D&3 4th option that can't create for himself.

Not really interested in Malik Monk, especilaly since he probably commands 20M+.

DLo is a trash defender. I'd take him as a stopgap, but he isn't a long term choice there. And why bring in a stopgap if we arent really making a playoff push?

I could see Quickley being a long term solution at PG< but not sure I see Toronto letting him walk.

Quote:

Ranked 28th in net point differential (minus-8.5) before the All-Star break, they finished at minus-1.9, ranking 20th. Their improvement of 6.6 net points per game was the largest post-All-Star jump in the league.

Correct. He officially declared for the draft a few days ago. He's gonna a have to convince a lot of teams with workouts and pass his medicals with flying colors if he has top 10 hopes.
